@janice&fred makes some good points, especially regarding msrp's and the factor weight the designer of this pyramid seems to give them. It could serve as a rough guide, I suppose, but it's certainly not gospel and almost every watch enthusiast I know would have issue with some of the groupings. (My personal first raised eyebrow was how low Oris has been placed, when I find they make a beautiful product in most cases.)
As you research, even prior to purchase, it might help you begin to develop your own personal hierarchy, which I find most collectors in all areas have (Fords always over Chevys, Colts over Smith & Wessons, etc). An important question to ask yourself is: what is YOUR criteria for ranking a watch? Durability? Original as-new MSRP? Current value? Likelihood of retaining value, especially for pre-owned pieces? The aesthetics? The type of movement? (I have one friend who refuses to own anything Quartz, another who would turn down a Patek if it was a traditional manual-wind, for examples)
What is the most important factor/s to you, personally? Then research from those and go from there.
