I thought Rolex was more in the same category as Omega and Breitling?
How and where did the "hate" idea come from? Oh wait I see who was responsible for planting that seed. Anyways you asked for people's thoughts on the pyramid you posted and got them. 馃榿
Only on OF will you hear this.
So does Rolex just have good marketing or are they good watches?
oh boy...
Well you're TheNewOmegaMan so who cares about all those lesser brands in some pyramid? Stick to Omega and you can't go too far wrong. 馃榿
I don鈥檛 know how useful this pyramid is but when I started collecting I wanted to buy nearly every watch I saw.Not that I had the money to do so, probably a good thing. After a while my watch collecting desire seemed to head in one direction, 60s and 70s omega watches, and the more interesting the design the better. This focus has not really changed that much apart from a few speedmasters thrown into the mix for good measure. My advice would be to try to get a handle on what style of watch you like rather than brand and go from there.

Why does it have to be "or"?
I guess it doesn't at all. I guess they do have good marketing and make good watches. I really wanted to grab a Rolex one day but if everyone thinks they are overpriced maybe I will hold out.

There are many different ways to think about price and value. Most people will probably say that Rolex watches are overpriced in the sense that you can get other watches of similar quality for less money. On the other hand, they usually depreciate very little (and sometimes even appreciate), so you will generally get your money back if you sell a new-ish Rolex after a few years. This is not true of most other brands.
Get rid of this asshole.
Do Omega's hold value in the same way Rolex's do?
Regular models generally depreciate, like almost every other consumer item. Some limited edition models hold their value, but not all of them.
And BTW, just because Rolex watches have held value well in the past doesn't guarantee that the same will be true in the future. That remains to be seen.
