Family owned from new but do you have an idea
Of year (without me opening to look at serial)

I can't say much based on that picture except that it looks like a 1950's Constellation. Is it a snap or screw back? The dial has been redone and it has the applied "Omega" which would make me more likely to suspect a gold capped ref 2852 from around 1957/58

Thanks. By ‘redone’ what has been updated?

Repainted dial and added lume dots.

Oh that’s a shame.
Is it obvious because of condition or something isn’t as it would have been? Trying to learn as much as possible so I become more knowledgeable on spotting this sort of thing

I mean is it one part that’s repainted or the whole dial? Is it colour that gives it away or font or something else?

fonts are not correct, spacing not correct and location of SWISS MADE is not correct, at the very least

yes the whole thing repainted

dots added because hands should have inserts of lume if there is lume on dial from factory

Blimey. Omega are terrible. Was grandads and been serviced 10 years again and prior to that about 30 years. Wonder which occasion they did the redial.

routine back then as part of service, and not a bad redial as redials go

Not all of them have cross hair dials so don't get all paranoid when you dont see cross hairs on a dial. Take your time and do plenty of research if you intend to collect vintage pieces. Like for most things, Knowledge is power😉

Picked up this 2852 a few months ago from a forum member. It was my first vintage watch purchase, and it took me a little over two years of saving up funds and about a year of hunting to find it. Happy to finally be able to post on this thread.

I love this thread.

Here is a new one for me. When I first got into vintage and I noticed Constellations, I loved the funk of the C-Case Connie, especially with a knurled/coin-edge bezel. Well, I was able to bag a 168.027 dating to 1968. The bracelet most commonly seen with these is the "Brick Bracelet," however mine came with the 1093/515 combo, which I had never seen before (but isn't too uncommon). It actually was a surprise as I thought maybe it was an aftermarket band before being able to look it up. It is also a stretch bracelet, which is kinda cool. The 564 with a pull-out quickset date feature is really helpful given this one isn't likely to be worn daily.

The second hand has been replaced so that's a drawback, but it's not too much of an eyesore at the moment. Any suggestions on how to locate a correct hand?

Anyhow, time for pictures.

I also feel like these aren't worth touching if they have been polished. Here is a macro to demonstrate: 😀

Here is the latest and peharps the best Constellation I have found, a ref 168.004 with pie pan dial signed by Turler. I don't think it has ever been polished. I found it in my local flea market(of all places) by sheer luck and when I saw it, I knew immediately that I should have it:

Except for a scratch from a previous bad attempt to open the watch, the caseback is in very good condition and the medallion seems unworn:

And a side view showing the original crown

It had also a genuine vintage Omega buckle, which unfortunately didn't fit in the new black strap I bought yesterday
