I tend to agree with you, particularly after admiring many of these posted on OF but I make two general comments.
First, all the waffles and hobnails seem to originate in the fifties and early sixties. I originally collected from that era but there seem to be far fewer in the late sixties, early seventies where my interest has moved, although I am happy to stand corrected.
Second, the dials of quite a few of the Omegas from the fifties/sixties seem to deteriorate (or patinate, if you prefer) in a way that doesn’t seem to affect dials on some other brand dials (black or silver) of that sort of age. I’m thinking primarily of Longines and Certina, but there obviously others.
Of course, I accept that OF members generally post superb examples which, if they were typical, would refute my perception.
