The result was somewhat mixed.

Recently acquired via Chrono24 gray market brand new old stock Omega De Ville Hour Vision from Ippo, Japan. Came on beautiful 9 link steel bracelet in immaculate Omega lacquered wood box and white cardboard outer box, red warranty card with hologram, manual. Then heard about VSFactory that does very good clones of the Hour Vision. So thought I’d just check the serial number, dealer (Ippo Japan) on Google Gemini who reckoned it was legit. Having done due diligence I half expected that. However Gemini then suggested sending photos of movement at which point it became convinced the watch is a VSF fake! Panic!

I then cross checked with Chatgpt which from photos reckoned it was legit. Matching serial number on lug and movement, doesn’t come up as commonly faked number, free sprung balance wheel etc. Clincher seems to be that the case thickness of mine is 12.2mm checked on two calipers which is Omega standard. VSF current spec for an 'Hour Vision' I saw on a website was 13.5 which appears to be common to the fakes

Attached dial and movement photos. I put on aftermarket leather strap. Would be most grateful for a real human to have look. I did post on a the fake busters thread so apologies for double postinghttps://omegaforums.net/attachments/3428990/

In general, if you depend on AI to recognize a counterfeit watch, you're going to be wearing a counterfeit watch on your wrist. You are very wise to ask the experts.

I sincerely doubt that. The people who are fine owning counterfeit merchandise will remain and the rest will not. I don't believe anything has changed. When I was in Thailand and then Turkey the amount of counterfeit items was staggering. In Turkey, I was surprised to see counterfeit Omega, Rolex Cartier, etc. displayed in storefront windows of established jewelry stores (not the back streets in Thailand). Honestly, I wouldn't waste my hard earned money to buy counterfeit items.

AI is not good enough to spot fakes with great accuracy. Maybe someday. That day is not today.

I absolutely agree that AI has be treated with great sceptism, not least an awareness as well of its obvious risks. Bearing all that in mind, I have found it useful in other areas if like all tools it is used with due care and dilligence in checking. In this case, whilst not taking its conclusions as to authenticity as definitive, I have found it helpful in point out things to look for. As no expert, I have checked comparitive case thickness, presence of a free sprung balance wheel, the quality and positioning of the text, etc. As a result, nothing stands out that I can see that would suggest that my watch is a fake. I would be grateful for views on that.
Thanks

And finally, checked with Omega Boutique London serial number and reference number on the waranty card. They confirmed from their records that my watch corresponded exactly to those numbers. That settles it I reckon.

Just for information attached photo of a VSfactory clone. Pretty good but the regulator lever is a dead giveaway. Also quoted spec of 13.8mm of case is much thicker than original. Interesting that they can get the serial number on the lug to correspond with the number on the movement.
