This beauty has surfaced again, with a bit of wear and tear on it

I know these things are meant to be worn, but I'm a little bummed to see one of the most minty tris I've come across turn up in worse condition

Clearly it's still an amazing watch and if the price was lower I'd snatch it up

Two nice golden ones sold today in Italy at an auction.


This beautiful 481101/03 in 14ct sold for 12k eur plus around 30% fees

This case is wild, I was trying to figure out what was going on with the lugs for a while ! can't tell if someone has polished the spider lugs down to nubs, or if they fell off (common) and fabricated and re-attached something completely different, or a mix of both, or what ?!

This allegedly rare UG Autorem, purportedly to be the first automatic self winding movement from UG, was offered for EUR 1900 (now sold) on IG (link to the listing below).

Curiously, it seems the same watch has been sold a few times before:

1 - First at an Antiquorum auction (here).
2 - Subsequently right here on OF about a decade ago (with some debate about the authenticity of the claims, especially related to the dating/year)
3 - One of the eventual buyers/owners talked about it on the Italian Orologi forum as well with some pictures

Serial no seems to be the same on all (1514).

Would love to hear any views here about it.

I didn't buy, though I had a good discussion with the seller (who may be a member here, who knows), and it seems over the course of it's ownership the dial has been clearly relumed at some point.

Def agree with you, but looks like it's no longer available so I assume someone bought it 🙈

Eric Wind also had this tri listed at 23k and it sold quickly

Seems like there are a few people out there willing to pay a lot of money for an original tri

I didn't try to search for it in the Sala book (don't remember it being there) but Wikipedia mentioned the Autorem too as UG's first automatic watch.

So its interesting if you look at Wikipedia the reference for this so called 'auto rem' was a book written by a former model and media personality Reyne Haines. She wrote a book called "vintage wristwatches" in 2010 which she somehow included a blurb about this auto rem and it being Universal's 1st patented automatic wrist watch in 1925...Anyone can add anything to Wikipedia with some obscure reference and have it codified onto their site. Maybe Ms. Reyne knows more about UG though than the collective UG cohort on OF but maybe its all bs and she picked it up from here : https://catalog.antiquorum.swiss/en/lots/lot-54-154

And just to be clear Antiquorum is the original Nigerian Prince of Auction Houses 😂

The crown looks like it's from an Italian Railroad. I'm inclined to think a bitsa where someone has decided the best way to deal with accusations that it's not genuine is by engraving Universal Geneve in the largest possible font on the caseback.
