Fantastic memory Larry! Looks like that poster had the same thought as me at first...

UG collecting really is a minefield
Seems like the OP got his money back.
Shame he didn't think to come back and give thanks for the advice he was given.

With help from some friends (Diabolik, Larry S and gop76), as well as Mr Sala himself who saw this and I quote:

Hi Jeremy, the tricompax in the pictures is all original and seems in good condition.
The reference is 12253 of 1954 and is published at page 360 of my book.
In my honest opinion you can buy this watch without doubt.
Best regards
PG.SALA

I decided to pick this up. Awaiting shipment now. Let's see how this turns out!

It would seem that the seller had two separate listing. One for BIN and the other bidding.

Please forgive me in advance if what I post below is an affront to all things original. While i'm not versed in the UG chronograph scene, I thought I'd share for your interest an item being auctioned at a local (Toronto, Canada) auction outfit over over next few days:

https://jewellery.waddingtons.ca/auction/352/lot-291

Their "estimate": 700 - 900 dollars.

Big surprise coming their way.

A, SS, Tri Compax, cal 287, 37mm with 900 dollars of estimate (even if the seconds sub dial looks doubtful)?

Oh, @Severin , you opened the gates of hell...

Nothing wrong with it. Possibly a case of looking at it too closely.

Very sharp looking case. All-original except for the month wheel. It could have just aged differently given the uneven aging of the dial, but more likely a service replacement. I'm a big fan of these thin bezel cases - wears quite large. Should be a wonderful watch after service.

Not quite ...

It is a 60s UG commissioned dial so (although acceptable) not a real 1940s original. I would also add that mechanically if may well need looking at judging by the position of the day wheel.

Wasn't the consensus that the 60's UG service dials had short tail 9/6 and missing dash between Tri and Compax? Still its an OS Tri that is sure to draw a crowd.

I don't follow. What makes this a service dial? The listing does say it is "not working", but the position of the day wheel is more likely because of the time.
