Hi, I am pretty new to this vintage watch thing, so I would like to ask you experts some questions regarding the watches below. Thank you in advance.

I recently encountered a seller online selling this GP

So far no other pictures, the claim was it was handed down by an uncle, and he does not know anything about watches, year, model. nothing, he does not have any tools to open the case back, hence these are the only photos for GP.

What are your thoughts about this, at least dial wise? there's no minute track, even at the sub-dial, although it appears to have a faded crosshair on the subdial.

The second one is an Omega seamaster 166.001, i bought it online from a vintage watch seller, however I had to return it, for the following reasons.

    1. It was advertised as having an original signed omega plexi. but when I received it, i almost got blind looking for it and taking macro shots. The seller told me it was there and I just could not see it and it needed 10x magnification, but I did not buy this reasoning as I have seen vintage omegas with the signed crystal.

    2. I asked about the crown as it looks to be protruding, or big for this model, I got a response that he did not know, because he did not own the watch originally but it seems the watch came with it originally.

I returned the watch because I thought if he can make an excuse or lie about as simple as the plexi glass omega signature which is pretty in my face obvious, what else can he lie about the inside movement of the watch which is hidden? and also if you are a vintage watch dealer, surely you must know if that crown type belongs to that watch or not, unless you are evading to answer it honestly and simple say "i dont know"

    What do you think?

I think the GP dial has been washed, and there is also something funny about the hands. Respectfully, since you've already returned the Omega, it's not worth my trouble to study the photos.

Hi @Rex123 and welcome to the forum. If you're interested in the hobby of vintage watch collecting, you've come to the right place. I might suggest that you slow down, put your money back into your wallet, and take some time to study these threads:

Don't be afraid to ask questions about watches other collectors are wearing. Join other watch forums. Buy a book or two on marques that interest you. Review the watches for sale on this forum. The right vintage watch for you has been patiently waiting for decades for you to find it; a little longer won't matter.

Thanks so much for your response, I've read some of it and have been watching videos such as omega enthusiast educating "would be" omega collectors or collectors in general.

What I find it difficult sometimes is pricing, like for example if I find a good all original watch, which shows aging, such as patina, small bubbles on the dial due to age, unpolished, etc, I still struggle to price and figure out if the watch is overpriced, underpriced, or fairly priced, I do check the market value from chrono24 but I do understand that some of the valuation there are a little overvalued or even too high.

Is there a certain rule about prices, like hey this is too expensive for this watch

Thanks! yea i kinda find that the dial might be missing some of the details or lines. But since I have never seen anything like this model online, I don't have anything to compare to.

Edit: btw, the GP was listed around $350

    Thanks!
