He is a master Manipulator, a MASTER! My fear is that he will get away with this again!

Report him to You Tube. They have a building somewhere in the silicon valley with 200 lawyers waiting to prosecute misuse. Read above, one could argue he is (mis)using You Tube to perpetrate scams.

What makes you think so? I think Italy has come a long way over the decades in terms of how efficient its institutions are, and for example the prosecution of the Costa Concordia ship debacle was relatively swift, as was Berlusconi’s ridiculous antics, if you consider the speed at which similar situations might have been handled in other countries.

During the pandemic (eg June 2020 to sept 2021) the Italian people were much more serious and rule abiding when it came
To vaccination or mask mandates than the French, the Swiss and / or the Americans. Can’t speak about other countries as I didn’t visit them during that time span.
The example of Costa Concordia and Silvio were very much in the public eye and therefore interest to come to a conclusion. I never said the Italian people did not abide by the law, what I said was the system is very very slow and can be manipulated easily.

Imagine I was the bad guy here and had the watches, I could employ a legal team at an enormous cost to me but also to the owner of the watch to thwart his recovery effort in the hope he eventually gives up as his potential legal spend outweighs the value of the watch. There is no "No Win No Fee" legal practices in Italy.

I suggested this at the beginning.

Sorry Bill, to clarify as there seems to be confusion about my intended point:

The relevance of value is that theft laws are tied to value. Theft of a $10 item has less punishment than theft of a $10,000 item. Just the same, enforcement agencies care less about theft of a $10 item than they do $10,000 item.

Which is to say: should someone call to claim theft, the first or second question will be “what is the value of the item” and there are better or worse answers to that question.

Hello @cvalue13

My attitude is to try to make people whole. Priority is to get property and $$ back to the victims ... and get help to the offender. As he needs some assistance etc.. . I hope that Mr. O Malley surrenders the property and makes good the money that was sent to him for watch purchases. So if we can have a local OF member volunteer for a face to face meet up that would be great for all at a police station ( I know there is risk ).. Seems Mr. O Malley is already suffering in his own way...

If the above is not an option... then its Lawyers ....

Any thoughts?

Bill

The “involvement” of a third party member to do the shipping return can obviously be done either intelligently or stupidly, and I assumed one might infer that I suggest it’s not done stupidly.

I'm working from the premise that he no longer has the watches in his possession, and that therefore, any third-party involvement, in the form of a physical meeting, could only end badly.

As to your law firm, it's kind of you to make the offer, but do you seriously imagine that this guy might contemplate traveling to Rome or Milan, or pay a lawyer to do so, in order to return the watches? I can't imagine it in my wildest dreams.

And so your “let the lawyers do their work” point was what?

The problem of performance here is obvious.

EDIT: sorry for the snark. It’s just frustrating to try and help, necessarily avoid all sorts of nuance or obviousness in a forum post, that this guy has been sent and is reading along with us, only to have multiple retorts that in my view are neither very generous in interpretation nor appreciating some challenges to the legal options many are clamoring for

+1 … it’s up to the aggrieved parties to take this to Google. This narcissistic sociopath is clearly harming people.

Bill,

As you well know, the valuation of watches in general, and especially of the ones that have provenance is not what it was 5 years ago, let alone 14 years ago.

But regardless, if the owner of a property asks for its return, then it should be returned promptly!!

What something is worth 2008 has no bearing on today , I understand that ... it just a data point. I dont even know if that was the auction the OP bought the watch at ... just a snapshot of the watches history.

The point is that they will almost certainly have to take legal action, not simply arrange a meeting in Rome.

His "brand", FWIW, is being demolished in front of our eyes, and if he had the watches, he could return them immediately in an effort to mitigate the damage. Instead, he is lashing out as if he were the victim.

This will not likely be resolved by a meeting at a neutral place.

Hi Tony

But the effort is made and you prepare for the worse.

Used to enjoy his channel when he had less than 2k subs. Now that he thinks he's some sort of modern celebrity, he showed his true colors.
