My opinion is that the Speedmaster professional is one of the best looking watches. It is also tough, accurate and if you need to time anything from your car speed to the Sunday roast it's there on your wrist ready to go. As far as waterproof I guess it will cope with the shower or a swim.
The seamaster is as tough as old boots and will allow you to dive as deep as you want. If, that is, you do dive.
Unless you are a deep sea diver buy the speedie, it will be your watch for life.

What do you guys think would be the better choice for a first watch and why.

The Aqua Terra, because it's more of an all-around watch than either the Seamaster or Speedmaster.

There are so many variations of the speedmaster and its such historic watch. I had an instantaneous connection with the Speedmaster. Go in and try them both on. Pictures don't do either of the watches justice.

Does any one swim with is speedmaster?
I mean really swim.going to the pool etc...
This post is very interesting as I think this is the most common question.
Seamstres vs speedmaster.
Which one is really the perfect all-rounder.
If the speedy is really suitable for regular swimming, than I think this is the perfect all-rounder between the two.

The Pro is water resistant, and if its a modern one and has had the seals changed recently and a current pressure test I'd be comfortable swimming with it (personal view, not all would). That's partly because its new and partly because being modern, the parts are available if it leaked. If the seals were older than 2 years, and it hadn't been tested recently there's no way I'd do it, similarly if it were older, or tritium, or LE, I'd not consider it.

Its like a cat, it can get wet if need be, doesn't mean that it wants to.

If you want an even more all round watch than the AT, the Seamaster Chronograph is the best of both the Seamsaster and Speedmaster worlds...

I do not like either of the above. So far I am just debating the two in the title, with a growing advantage for the speedy.

Would an Omega Boutique charge for a pressure test?

Of course the best and really only advice that counts is - buy what you like, not what everyone else likes.

Dear archer,
What is your recommendation regarding speedy pro WR ?
Do we really need to bring a speedy pro once a year to the presure chamber?
Thank you...

No matter what the model is, or what it's water resistance rating is, if you get a wrist watch wet regularly, it should be tested regularly. If people choose to do this or not is up to them, and yes you may get away with it for a number of years, but seals fail, and when water gets in it can do a lot of damage quickly.

Cheers, Al

I think it's a question of technological advancement vs. consistency. A lot of People knock on Omega for updating their lines every year, unlike Rolex, and if you find yourself in this camp, you should go with the design and movement that has stood the test of space and time [emoji6]. I, on the other hand, think that no other watch gives you as much innovation as the Bond 300 at that price point.

YES, I do! Swimming, Waterskiing, Sauna, etc. - not a problem if you bring your Speedy to Service all 2 to 3 years 😀
