It's always possible to have bad experiences, even with good people. I've had several situations where I've had to return UG watches 3 times for issues that were not resolved, newly introduced, etc, with multiple watchmakers, who are very well respected. I will admit getting pretty damned frustrated for a minute, especially when I feel like people are not doing good QC checks before shipping, when there have already been multiple problems. One of the people I stopped using, the other I still use regularly.
I try not to jump online when I'm really worked up, maybe grab a beer instead and let it sit til the morning. Of course I also have my GF tell me that I keep my feelings bottled up too much, so maybe the healthiest thing to do is let it rip ?! Not so much fun for everyone else. If you see me flaming people here on OF every other day, just know it's my new form of therapy.
My latest one was this great thing here in America, where companies can buy and sell your mortgage at will, to make money, and screw you over in the process. My latest switch, the new company had a "glitch" in their credit reporting and mistakenly reported my account 30 days past due all the way back to January of this year, 5 months before the account existed. Tanked my credit score in the middle of trying to get a new mortgage. Then they failed to pay my insurance impounds, so I lost my home insurance, right in the middle of fire season, with fires all around, when my home almost already burned down 2 years ago in a huge fire. And it's all my problem. Just so some asshat can make a profit buying and selling my mortgage any day of the year. Sometimes this country really pisses me off.
Anyhow, that's an example of a REALLY bad experience, with complete idiots, so not really the same.
1st world problems........

Your PM is admitting your posts have been untrue/incorrect. If that's the case, bloody delete them. Don't just send me a PM apologising.

I'm not the one with the communication problem here.

EDIT: OK, tyrantlizardrex has deleted his posts now, in case anyone is wondering why it looks like I'm talking to myself right now...

I yearn for the nomadic days. Tents are resilient.
Lot of 'fakkin' about involved in putting a yurt up! Poles and skins etc???馃槙

Been off the forum for sometime with other interests and came back on yesterday, I was saddened to hear the OP's problems but quite surprised at the challenges this thread has raised. Its not for me to pass comment on this individual case, I have about a dozen watches serviced with STS a year, very few over the last ten years have returned with a problem and on the very rare occasion they do they have resolved quickly and efficiently. In fact it is this personal service (which is leagues ahead of Omega themselves) they endeared them to me in the first place.

I have also used Simon Freese, Rocco and many others, again their customers service has also been excellent but I have to find any watch maker who manages to get it right every time, and I include Omega themselves in this comment.

What puts STS ahead of the pack for me is the scale of their operation, the investment in tooling and equipment and the range of new and NOS vintage parts they have, I also value their personal customer service, which makes them a must go to for vintage stuff for me, That said I am sure I may be biased as I have probably put hundred of watches through them in the last decade and I can only recall four or five where I have had challenges, which have all been resolved quickly, promptly and at no cost to me (including postage) .

Its a real shame that its come to this and a shame that a company who work really hard on their reputation (especially as one of the largest independent service centres out there) will potentially suffer from both the title of this thread and some of the comments but then that is the right we have of free speech. In a world where the big watch houses are becoming more controlling and obstructive of independent watch makers (especially those like STS, Rocco etc who are Omega approved) it doesn't take too much of an excuse for manufacturers to give them a tough time, which would be fine if they were perfect themselves, but they are not.

Appreciating Archers and others comments vintage watches are not an exact science and I respect any watch maker who is willing to take this work on, especially as there is an increasingly limited supply of parts and manufactures are stock piling them for themselves or charing increasingly outrageous prices for spares (such as Omega).

I hope the OP manages to get their watch sorted and perhaps since starting the thread they have been able to pick up a further conversation with Tony or wider STS, hope it gets resolved positively.

I don't have faith they will fix it. They've already caused problems three times. I am sure you can understand that, even if you are a fan of STS.

I'm sorry to hear about your problem. I could feel your frustration cuz I have the same problem with a watchmaker (not STS) when I brought my watch for cleaning. We just learn from our mistakes and hope it won't happen again. Good luck to whatever decision you have!

Sorry to say that but I stopped using STS after having a very similar experience with two watches. That was 2 years back, watches went back two times, only got shipping back on the third go. Actually drove there from the west of London to drop them off... Very friendly as stated but results were lacking. 105.003 is still clattering but will leave as is now and not get dial and hands removed again.

Thanks Neil.

But what's to be done? I am not sending the watch to them again. So far they have a 100% track record of screwing up the service.
I have had a bad experience with them too. I sent my Speedmaster 4.5 for a service and then it stopped working just after the two year guarantee ran out. I was told it needed a full service again despite the fact that I had only worn it occasionally since.
