No reason to own a reduced when the triple date exists for the same money.

better movement, more watch, way more interesting, easier to service.

Unfamiliar... same size as the Reduced?

Just looked, triple date is nice... don't like the domed bezel and butterfly clasp but otherwise very nice.

Somebody realizes how superior the Reduced is to the Speedmaster Professional. Thinner, higher beat rate, and automatic.::stirthepot::

wrong

Don’t use these words ever again!!!!

but to the OP, poor description, and two people not knowing what they were bidding on is the likely answer. I see them advertised locally as a Speedmaster for sale.

Domed bezel isn’t as nice as I’ve got a 7750 based date with the same case.

At the end of the day the triple date is a lot more watch for the same money.

My first Speedy was a reduced I bought for about $1850, not knowing that it wasn’t the same thing as a pro. The lume had some nice patina and I bought it on impulse from an antiques dealer, only to discover the mainspring was shot, and that plus servicing cost me another grand. It remained unloved in my collection as I acquired more, better pedigreed Speedies, but now my wife has taken to wearing it and she makes it look fantastic, so all is forgiven.

The ultimate his & hers, a dual wrist shot is required,

My girlfriend wore the reduced as well for years. Great watch. Bought one from a student in Antwerp. He needed the money so he could go on a long trip. After that my girlfriend wore a regular speedy and now a yema diver.

In UK, non-special watches fetch higher prices, and special watches fetch lower prices

I think it's a result of non-collectors bidding, and collectors being reserved

Depends. Some of us are not fond of the thickness the 7750 requires. They can be unbalanced on the wrist unless they're in 40+mm watches, and then overall wear large.

As I've heard too. So much discord over the Reduced -- I see it time and time again, "Stay away!" "Not repairable only replaceable!" and finally "Will cost the price of a new Speedmaster to repair!" So much bullshit out on the interwebs...

every reputable watchmaker I've spoken with about the Reduced has either said they'd "rather not" (because if anything goes upside down they have to go to Omega) or "Yes, of course!" with price quotes running from $450 to a ceiling of $900.

All of which is to say, if it's a watch that speaks to you (as mine does - well not literally... unless I'm shit faced) there is absolutely zero reason not to move forward in acquiring one.

True, there is a lot of information out there that is inaccurate on many watches, including this one. There are really a few key things...

1 - Know what you are buying - as we see in this thread, people sometimes buy these thinking they are the Pro version.

2 - Your repair options will be more limited. But Omega charges the same for these as they do any other chronograph, so they are always an option (and yes, most likely they will swap the movement out with a refurbished one).

3 - Understand how the movement works. I've read many times from owners that just getting the base movement serviced is fine, because "I don't really use the chronograph so the module doesn't get used." Well, every hand you see on that watch is being moved by the module, so when the watch is running, the module is being used. If you find someone outside of Omega that is willing to service it, make sure they are servicing the entire movement, and not just the base movement.

He would also have a fleet of Devil divers but the 666 on the dial scares him.
It doesn’t scare me, I just feel better when it’s not around, kinda like people.

I'm inclined to go with the 'Cabal Theory', and am going to expose yet another Cabal-lero on our Forum: @Walrus . He's always going on about his "mundane Speedy" when in actuality it's one of the loveliest Speedy autos you'll ever see 😀
Tbh I picked up the “mundane” lingo as someone was selling one here and in the comments about the watch somebody happened to say “it’s a rather mundane speedy”. It struck me as funny so I christened mine with the “mundane moniker” but I actually like it quite a bit.

It’s a really pretty watch. That asshat was probably visiting from TRF and was bitter he had to buy 12 diamond encrusted ladies watches to get his Batman.

Own one and try to get it running right and understand why they are the ginger stepchild of Speedmasters. Hateful thing.

My muse back in the day was a ginger stepchild. She was the most beautiful darling … unlike the reduced …

Was just following an auction - online, in UK - strange mix of all sorts of stuff going for less than nothing - at the end, a few watches, in there! a speedmaster reduced - dirty, no papers, no box no history - AHA, might snatch this up at a good price............
Bidding opened at 1500 £ / 1800 $ - and much to my surprice - went up from there - ending at 2250 £ / 2750 $ + a 23 % buyers fee........

After starring at the screen for a few minutes, i decided - there's apparently so much i dont know... or - is there something with this watch that i dont get - please educate me 😀

And a few days later this one sells for £1300 (£1600 all in).. these small auctions are just odd sometimes!
