I am to dumb to understand Phillips results 1) Omega Triple Calendar Steel https://www.phillips.com/detail/OMEGA/CH080117/2?fromSearch=omega&searchPage=1 i would have paid maybe 3k for it... it ended up at 21k 2) Omega Seamaster 34mm https://www.phillips.com/detail/OMEGA/CH080117/1?fromSearch=omega&searchPage=1 in my opinion a 400-800 USD watch. It ended up at 5.5 grand?!? How is this possible? Am i missing something?
Yes you are missing something. General understanding of buying and selling vintage watches. Do not take it personally, this is normal for many buyers to have tunnel vision.
The seamaster is easy to see why it got that money. I thought that moonphase was verified on here already. I've got a sinking feeling that moonphase might be market manipulation though. I'm betting someone has 10 of those squirreled away and they will be coming to market over the next year.
Nice enough watch. Someone may have come to the auction, didn't have big money to drop and wanted to take home a momento.
it is Phillips......., everybody is there for the auctions. look at the Rolex results. Omega is pocket money.....kind regards. achim
Thing looks unworn. Best of breed for that watch, presented at a high profile auction. Find a better one of those... I highly doubt it exists. Unworn with perfectly aged lume, very pretty dial. It ticks every box. It's like a 1965 v6 mustang with less then 100 miles.
Ebay on the Seamaster and maybe $400 - $500. Has a rusty sweep hand. Someone paid for the box and back sticker DON
Sold a real nice one without the box and sticker for about a fifth of Phillips price. Interesting how the the markers on both of these aged similarly.
About the seamaster, I believe it is because of the perfect NOS condition => sticker on the back + box + sticker price.. A bit like the "mint" old objects still in their original packaging, for some collector it is worth a lot.
The Seamster does feature a nice, and uncommon dial variation. Sure, the price was above what even dealers would dare ask, but it was Phillips, and there weren't many options for those with – ahem – "short money".
The prices at recent high stakes auctions are all out of whack. People there are not about paying an adequate price.
