... Is this foolish

Yes, but only if that is what YOU want to do, not because of someone else’s opinion of which is better.

And, it would only be foolish if YOU are dissatisfied in the end.

If it was me - I'd keep the FOIS, maybe even think about putting a 7912 or 1039 bracelet on it.

I absolutely love my FOIS. I compared it to the Speedy Pro before purchasing it and just preferred the FOIS. That said I could see myself with a Speedy Pro down the road. I've already added a 60th anniversary Speedy and a Speedy Tuesday.

As for bracelet, I don't like it on the bracelet. I have mine on a Hodinkee aged moss green strap and it looks great.

I always end up dissatisfied. It's the curse of the collecting affliction. I thought the FOIS would bring me more pleasure than it currently does.

Maybe I've spent too much time looking at the steel bracelets and white hands of other watches online. If anyone knows of a nice 145.022-83 for sale...

Speaking as someone who has both straight lug and Pro Speedmasters, if I could have only one it would likely be the straight lug so I personally wouldn't make that switch. My all means get both if you can but if it was either or, I'd keep the FOIS.

I have a 1968 Speedmaster, an Alaska project Speedmaster and a FOIS. The nicest looking one on the wrist is the FOIS. The speedy is nice, I love it but its a somewhat 'unremarkable' watch now. The Alaska project is now too expensive to wear realistically so I am selling that (if anyone is interested 😉) but the FOIS (get rid of that ridiculous single leaf sub-dial hand though) looks just superb.

My advice....keep your FOIS and save up for a Speedy pro if it really is that important for you to get one.

For me it was an easy choice. I got the FOIS over Speedy Pro. I liked the way it looked more than the Speedy Pro. Only thing was the strap didn’t wear comfortably on my wrist for whatever reason so I purchased a Speedy Racing bracelet.

Ignore the poison ivy rash on my hand.

Did you have to swap the end links on a Pro bracelet to fit it to the FOIS case? (19mm vs 20mm)?

You really ought to get that looked at 😀
I bought Zanfel and started using that so the rash is getting better.

No. I bought a Speedmaster Racing bracelet with the end links and not a Speedy Pro bracelet. There’s a thread about it somewhere on this forum where ppl talked about which bracelet for the FOIS and CK2998. Some people went with the vintage looking bracelet while I went with the more modern Racing bracelet.

Briefly considered as well back in the day...but the small crown, dial script, varnish dial, and most importantly the sapphire crystal with the milky ring effect was what put me away from the FOIS.

Take your time and save up for the Pro. By the time you've spent the time, a) buying a pro will be that much more meaningful, because the time and effort it took you to get it, and b) if the desire to buy the pro wears off while you're saving up, then you have your answer - you didn't really want it that bad. If you make it through and get it, then you will have both of your dreams and no regrets. If, after you buy the pro, you find yourself never wearing the FOIS, then you can happily sell it with no fear of any regret... This is a fool proof solution, and only requires a bit of patience.

I must say, the bracelet looks like it doesn't belong, but each to their own.
