Should I buy this A386 Mk I?

Personally, I would echo others who say to focus less on the Mk and more on the overall condition. I don't care that my A386 is a Mk2 - I care that it's original and in terrific condition. If the watch is in poor condition, it won't bring the same joy when you wear it (regardless of the "rarity" of the Mk1).

I have to concur with the sentiments expressed here, the example shown had a service dial that hurt the eyes. Don't sweat the Mk, just find an honest one (if you can).

A watch with a soft case is referred to a case that has been polished in the past, where it’s original shapes, brushing or chamfers have been polished away or altered.

In this particular watch the brushing on top of the lugs have been polished away and the case is showing a bit of soft edges where the original shape should be sharp. I was probably done at the same time it had all the service parts replaced.
Very helpful. I’ve been aware to look for polished case, but now I’ve learned the “soft” terminology. Thank you!

XXXX460 is a suspected series of forged case numbers

Thank you, I learn so much here.
Just saw they relisted on eBay as an open auction, priced way lower now at $4350.
Should I take from your comment that one should stay away regardless?

Cheers

Recommended reading on the x460s:
From @LouS https://omegaforums.net/threads/of-a-386-casebacks-and-forgeries.3651/

You can also go to the A386 case number project and use the search field for find 460
https://alphahands.com/faq/case-number-serial-number-project/
That will show you more about the properties of these pieces, where at least at a high level you can see how often they have service dials, tachy, hands, crown (and this includes link to the pieces). Also, I'm in the process of adding more information as I aggregate (movement detail including stamping and rotor, etc.) which may provide additional assistance. Timing TBD.

Yes - unless you want just any 386 but I recommend being patient or buy the reissue which is a safer buy (from an authenticity pov)

My mk2. Condition is everything..

My advice is to stat away from these cheap but bad examples. Buy yourself the reissue instead.

Do you have a ref# on the reissue you are speaking to? Not sure if I am missing it. In 38mm case, appears to be Original 1969 (c. 2014 1969 limited edition release) and the A386 Revival (c. 2019 50th anniversary, 50 piece limited editions, gold).

Only "one" out there! You'll be able to spot it, the subdials appear flat and 2-dimensional not stunningly 3-dimensional like the original.

No I dont. I thought Zenith made a few reissue’s or modern versions of it. But I do know a dealer that has a mk2 in ok condition. Far better than the ones you posted here so hit me with a pm and I will send you the info..
