Sell or Keep: 36mm Automatic AT

What would you guys do? I bought this 36mm (approx 2006) Aqua Terra in September of 2021. I have worn it less than a handful of times since then. It mostly occupies my watch box untouched. I have gone back and forth about selling it for about a year now. I bought it from Crown and Caliber, who seemingly did a poor job (or didn't do it at all) of servicing it, as it runs incredibly slow after about a day, and winding feels a tad gritty. I've factored in that if I decide to keep it and actually use it I will definitely need to shell out for a service. I like the 36mm size, but for whatever reason, I have not really warmed up to the AT handset.

So what would all of you do in this situation? Keep it or flip it and move on.

I wouldn’t bother keeping a watch I don’t wear. That said, I tend to think of the AT as the ultimate only-watch-you-really-need situation for most people. I love dive watches and own a couple but (just my personal take) I think wearing one all the time (like with work attire) would be like carrying a tennis raquet or baseball bat with me wherever I go. And I’m not a big enough deal to wear a dress watch all the time either. The AT is everything at once in an elegant just-perfect package. You can swim with it, you can wear it with a tux, or you can wear it with shorts, and it’s just a watch: it’s not a genre-specific tool. The concealed clasp bracelet kicks Rolex’s ass.

This isn’t a question anyone else can answer, really, but it might help to know what else you have in your stable.

Sell it. And just so you know, C&C don’t service watches they sell, they just verify they are real and sell them on.

If you have to ask, sell.

Indeed. The EXACT same rule applies to stock trading...

I had to stop carrying a baseball bat, got to many weird looks. Now I just walk around in flippers all day so my dive watch don`t stick out.

I agree with those who say sell it if you don’t wear it. And who says that a dive watch can’t be your daily wearer? I must disagree …
