Seeking help for purchase of a speedmaster 145.022

Hi all,

I bought a 1950's omega watch 8 months ago on Ebay and still have yet to be able to use it. I won't go into full details as I'm pretty jaded from the experience and I'd like help to put the past behind me by searching for a very widely known speedmaster 145.022 or 145.0022.

I don't care about rarity or too much about condition as I would like a daily watch (I don't even have one at this point, except my cell phone). My budget is 3.5 - 4k, but after some research it seems that's pretty reasonable for a watch that has some miles. Are there any other factors I need to specify?

The 145.022 covers quite a wide date range from the late 60's to late 70's/early 80's.

If you're indifferent to the period, you'll get more bang for your buck with the later watches.

Thanks! I just read through the site and this justifies I want to get a 71, 74, 76, or 78 due to desired use and price. What the site doesn't mention, is a place to buy said watches. What is mainly used/recommended?

I think your goal is pretty reasonable, just be sure to research the seller as well as the watch if buying online. Seeing it in person, especially if with someone you trust who knows about watches, would be even better.

Just curious though, any specific reason the 145.022 is your preferred?

I unfortunately don't know anyone that knows about vintage watches other than my Dad, whom doesnt have much knowledge.

The 145.022 is preferred due to price and age from initial research. But I'm open to being convinced otherwise.

Totally understand. With Speedmasters there is a huge selection to choose from, so you might want to research more before making a final decision. And especially for a daily wear, if possible trying a few different options on might be really helpful.

For purchase there are a number of options online. Crown and Caliber, for example, often has a wide selection and I've heard good things about them. (I myself haven't done business with them, so I can't personally vouch for them, others might know more/have differing opinions, so like I said, always research the seller.) Their site currently shows a 145.022 listed at 4k U.S.

What currency? USD? GBP? Euros? JPY?

As @Davidt suggested, the prices of 145.022 vary quite a bit depending on decade, and even within the decade of the 70s.

Good call out, didn't think about currency. USD is what I based my price range off of.

You are in the none stepdial/tritium era and can include 80- and early 90- Speedys as well.

Agreed the range is very wide. 145.0022 cases can be model 3590.50 or 3570.50. As advised above, do some research on the details you want and find the model to fit your price point.

The 145.0022 I have is kinda of an in-betweener
Kinda has the vintage look but not as costly as the real old timers and has the patina to set it apart from the modern.
