SeaMaster Constellation

Dear forum members,

Hi! I am new here. Joined a few days ago, took one look through the vintage section and was immediately hooked. Almost like porn!

As for me personally, I am fascinated with all 1950s and '60s Constellations. They are, to my eyes, the best watch designs ever.

So, coming to the matter at hand. The other day, I came across this watch and i have never seen one with this dial before. I searched the internet and couldn't find a single photo or any kind of information. Please take a look.

I am going to stop talking (typing) and let the pictures speak for themselves. Any thoughts will be really appreciated 😀

The dial has been refinished (repainted) . Remarkably they did a very neat job of doing it very incorrectly . It may even be a fake dial. There is no such thing as a Constellation / Seamaster.
An Asian product no doubt?

Cicindela, thank you. May I know, what metal is this watch? solid gold? and the ref 354 is the case?

It is utterly bizarre. The print job on the 'Constellation' is so precise and neat - but everything else looks pretty bad and blotchy.

Love the texture of the dial - wherever it has come from.

"OM" in "Omega" seem slightly off. Texture to the dial is pleasing to the eye, but as other have said, all text aside from "Constellation" is very thick. Markers must have been cleaned at some point seeing the lack of patina/aging taking place. Movement dates to 1954, does the case back engravings match up with that timeframe? Did Omega execute a specific amount of finishes to the dial?

Here to learn - Criticism/corrections welcome.

Thanks, this is getting interesting. I can return it no problem, but I am intrigued and would like to research it more. I will get some hi res pictures when I get back, and perhaps you guys will take a look again. I am also wondering whether I should upload the other vintage watches I bought from this seller to see what everyone thinks....

I have a theory: Germans love David Hasselhoff.
(Fans of Norm MacDonald will get that)

I have another theory:
Constellations from the 1950's, when sent in for service in the 1960's may have had the dials replaced with Seamaster dials. I have my father's Constellation (1952, 2652 cal 354) that I recently serviced.

(Forgive me if the link doesn't work)
The words look good, but it is missing the cross-hairs, has dashes, not dots, at the hour markers and does not say "Swiss Made" under the 6.

In another thread, ConPueblo showed three 1960s Seamasters that had similar dials. There were no cross-hairs and the hour markers covered the minute marking. This led me to speculate that people servicing those dials that were showing damage may not have had access to original dials and sourced Seamaster dials as replacements.
I am hoping that my siblings can find an Omega file that has a service history. My Dad tended to keep that type of stuff.
Remember, I have only been on here since August and don't know squat.

The dials actually have different indices, I think the one thing in common with them all is that they are coming out of, or have been through, Indonesia/Jakarta.

The early "Constellation" printing is very convincing though, especially with the double crossed t's

Okay, it's not April 1st so chill on the battery powered Sheepmaster gags.

Whoever redid that dial has some parts VERY correct. The crosshairs and script of Constellation are fantastic. If they could slide the SWISS MADE just a bit to the right they'd be fooling a LOT of people. Then add a small correction to the minute/second track (it doesn't meet the crosshairs perfectly) and you've got a damn fine Connie refinishing job.
