Wind Vintage have this solid platinum Constellation along with bracelet listed for $300k.

Apparently it’s one of two known, which were commissioned for the Kuwaiti royal family in the late 60’s. Ignoring the price for a second, we all know how hard it is to find a white gold Constellation and the premium they fetch when they do come to market.

Are there any other know examples of platinum Constellations??

Returning to value, how do you price such a rare item. Very broadly speaking, a good stew Constellation is c.$2-3k. I’d say a good white gold is a 10x premium of around $20-30k.
Is a platinum version worth a 100x premium?

There was a seller on eBay with one

He had one for sale around 2000. Didn’t meet reserve at around $13,000. No clue what the reserve was, but nowadays eBay charges sellers for reserves as back then. Set a high reserve. If bidder close. Email after the auction and sell it. As it didn’t meet reserve. Nothing to pay eBay.

EBay decided to close that loophole

I'd say the $300K asking is more of a 'come and talk about it' kind of thing, not to be taken too seriously. I saw him interviewed by the dude from Menta Watches and that's the feeling I got when they were discussing this watch. I think he's hoping to keep the $50K tyre kickers away this way 😅

I can see that being true.

I’m getting so sick of those cheap skates only offering 50k for Constellations!!!

Unrelated to valuation, but, wow that is one unappealing watch.

I was about to say how beautiful the back of the watch is when I read Dan's comment...I guess I was unintentionally saying the same thing!!

It's not even in mint condition though. Even if it's worth 300k, it would be if it were NOS.

Why did the other one sell in 2007 for CHF 413,700 when the starting price was "only" CHF 30,000 - 40,000? Maybe two bidders were really going crazy for it? The question is if at an auction in 2024 the same would happen with a worse example. I'd say probably not...

Some of the prices at the auction have never been reached again. The rumour goes that Omega itself had a role in this

Well apparently one sheet metal fitter didn’t learn anything of the sort!

Is a platinum version worth a 100x premium?

About 30 years ago, an acquaintance bought a platinum SWATCH for (as I recall) about $2,500.00. This also would be a rare watch. Gold currently goes for close to double the rate of platinum. So I am left wondering if the family that presented it would bring such a premium?
