Can the forum mods perhaps help with an IP address ?

No idea if a) they might have one, or b) whether it would be legal to disclose it.

For context, the watch did spend 3 weeks 'being held up for unknown reasons' in Copenhagen

The plot thickens

I hope this resolves satisfactorily for you. Good luck.

Definitely thicker. Thank you!

Is the answer in the end, some postal worker action??

That's possible, writing "chronograph watch" on the shipping label is more of a giveaway than something ambiguous like "precision instrument" but, on the other hand, 4000 ISK is only AUD 46 which isn't your usual chronograph price point (closer to fake Titus!)

Have asked the trader for a photo of his passport against a written note, for good faith, while he chases up Icelandic Post...

any insurance coverage?

for most/all allegedly.

he said he would pursue and worst case refund me the money... we'll see.

he's agreed to send me a photo of his passport later today so if that matches his name, that's probably a good sign.

Maybe ask him to include the IWC on his passport photo.

Interesting case, and serves as a warning to all of us to be careful about whom we trade with and how we package, post and label our goods. I hope things work out for the best.

Sorry to read about this. You said he first contacted you through this forum, but now his account has been deleted? I’d also ask him what happened there.

Damn sorry to hear that I hope it was a mixup. I never have much hope in that in such cases but all things are possible

My tuppence worth...

He's scammed you. He's noticed this thread (and the one you posted on facebook which I saw earlier) along with the mentions of going to the police - posting his address etc and is now responding to make himself look like an innocent party.

That said - I had a watch stolen by the American postal service so I guess it can happen...

I feel sorry for you - whoever is responsible is subhuman scum.

He’s doing the classic blame the postal system. And like above he’s trying to cover after you have outed his address with this thread and others.

Less than 400,000 in Iceland I would book a flight and alert every news, and media outlet I was on my way to recover my watch

These trade deals scare me. I had someone who wanted to make a trade for a very nice Zenith. I was thinking of pulling the trigger but how do you make a trade with someone you have had no previous interactions with. If there were some reliable intermediary it would make me feel better. I’m sure it has worked out fine for many but it would make me too nervous

Sorry to hear that mate.
What a chance that post office worker would source Indian special titus with over sized NATO, just to swap it? He or She would've put something for weight and would've been done with it.
P.S. Every online watch related purchase I've made above $500 - I would film while I'm opening the package. Doesn't take much effort, but if things would go south - you would have a video prove of you receiving box of rocks or titus watch.
