I read about that bitcoin heist in that Vanity Fair article.
Although Iceland has unbelievably low crime rates
( total country prison population seldom rises over 180) and is considered the world’s “most peaceful nation” they also have apparently a few holes in their prison system. According to the article ,”In Iceland, it is not a crime to stage a prison break: The law recognizes that inmates, like all human beings, are naturally entitled to freedom, and thus cannot be punished for seeking it”
In this particular multi million heist,” the prison staff even notified Stefansson that technically , he was a free man”; because of an expiration of his custody ( by mere hours)..... can’t make this stuff up. Eventually the bitcoin gang were jailed but the sentences were IMO seemingly light. Lol. Amazing.

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum, was interested due to this thread, which I have followed. I'm a watch collector based in Norway, however I am Icelandic. It is a shame that this case will now likely raise suspicions of any Icelandic peoples online in the watch forums. One rotten apple can ruin the basket!

Anyhow, I realised I may know the person (through a small number of Facebook mutual friends) who appears to be the scammer. I do not easily share this information, however it seems like there are many many victims, and hopefully this may help avoid any in the future. Like the victim stated, that Magnus and Stefan look like cousins. You can see below they liked same photo, of maybe a family member.

Unfortunately yep! Safe to say that anyone who has ever been scammed from Iceland online on a watch forum, given the size of their country, in the past 2-3 years, it was probably this same guy.
