Unfortunately, have been scammed by someone who found me through this forum.

It was a trade - always a bit risky if they have no online reputation. Lesson learnt there I guess. They definitely had the watch I was trading for, which I got in photos.

I was trading my IWC dress watch for a Speedy mk 2.

I believe this guy "Markus Siggurdsson" (which is no doubt a fake name) definitely had the watch in question. I think he messaged me off this forum but has since deleted his account. He also supplied a phone number which appears to be fake.

    I delivered my IWC to:
    "Efstasund 70
    108 Reykjavík
    Iceland"

Obviously bitterly disappointing - I guess you live and you learn with persons without any reputation online!

I received essentially a worthless vintage watch in return, instead of the speedy.

Please DM if you live in Reykjavik and can help!!

Very sorry that happened! That's blatant enough that the Iceland police ought to care.

    Good luck!

oh man that sucks. :( Thank you for posting, I hope you can get satisfaction, but if not, its posts like this that ends up saving the next person from the same fate.

A quick look at that address on google maps screams "rental" to me...( the car battery in the front yard and overgrown bushes, etc.)

Sorry to hear about your case, hope it works out in the end.

I am surprised the scammer sent through something, albeit the wrong watch, in the end.

    Thanks!

Agreed - I'm surprised he kept responding to me even after my package reached him... even though this was clearly a scam.

Long shot but I've received the wrong item several times, an honest mistake by the seller who was sending out a number of packages on the same day. When I contacted them they sent my purchase promptly and told me to keep the other item for my trouble.

Probably not the situation here though.

That's an odd looking Titus. Any chance it might be legit?

Yeah I'm just thinking that now.

I doubt it, but 0.00001% chance that it's possible.

Might there be a clue on the notepad? Johann Ronning appears to be an electrical supply company in Reykjavik. He might work there.

Very sorry to hear about this. I'd say it's a scam, not an incorrect shipment, since you say the trader deleted his account here. There's an Icelandic Consul General (located in Hawthorn) and I'd call them to see whether they can steer you in the right direction to attempt to resolve this, or at least report it to authorities, at the Icelandic end.

There's an online Iceland phone book ( https://en.ja.is/?q=Sigurdsson M ) and judging by the number of Sigurdsson's it must be about the most common surname in Iceland (is that another scam tell?). I found only one entry for Markus Sigurdsson but at a different address.

Good luck, let us know how you go.
