Similar condition watch auction won by Sumerian last April 2013 in Christie's costs USD 13.5 K.
I would say give or take $ 1K from that value would be the "fair price" for now?

Was that including or excluding buying commission? And what % was the commission?

All inclusive final price.

Well that works out today at just over 9900 Euro - in this case the seller is really trying his luck here with the 18K asking price.

I'll put it into the, " nice watch with too stupid price " pile then!

You'll notice the seller cites Omegamania Lot 171. He's thinking 2007 prices, not 2011 prices.

These watches didn't sell for 37K francs in 2007 (US$31K or 23K Euro).

They really mean "Omegamania Prices".

That was a one-time phenomenon.

Yes, Omegamania prices. Or kleptomania prices. Some kind of mania, for sure.

This watch was sold recently in a brick and mortar auction in Germany for 8.5 K euros ...
proven by the serial numbers...

so he is adding only 100% for his living 😁

Interesting, following the old, "Buy 'em low and sell 'em high! " adage. 💰

He must hope few gullible buyers flock to his nest.

Have you got a link to the auction?

They do it twice! This watch sold in the same auction (for 1.4K euros) - also here double the price... seems to be the "common earning" in their business...

Here is this Ref. 2367 chronometer on which I passed because I was convinced that it had a re-done dial although the description said "original dial"

http://www.ebay.de/itm/OMEGA-Chrono...soires_Uhren_Armbanduhren&hash=item19e6de64f3

What do you experts think - have I been right with my assumption that it had a re-done dial?

Please let me know your thoughts.

regards

erich

I don't like the proportions of the Ω symbol.

Hope this might help
Lines were drawn from an hour marker to the
opposite hour marker without break. Not from the
center out to the marker. Lines seem to intersect with
center pinion perfectly. Omega symbol off center,
but could it be photgraphic distortion? I don't know.
Typeface nicely balanced between 11 and 1 radii

The font on the word "Chronometre" is a modern typeface. This is a rather recent redial. This dial is too white to be vintage. In the 1940's Omega used a natural lacquer that almost always yellows with age.

Sometimes, over-aggressive sellers will hide behind the fact that the dial metal is "original". Not a single serious collector would consider that to be correct.

They are trying to take advantage of noobies, and it sucks.

I think it is a redial too. But mac_omega (Erich) is one of the top authorities on manual wind omega chronometres so if he thinks it's a redial, that's good enough for me. 👍
