I meant that in my sarcasm voice. Point being that there are many other brands that will let you purchase their watches new without having to sing and dance and if you really want a Rolex, it’s not too difficult to find a perfectly nice used one, no matter if you’re into modern or vintage.

I missed the sarcasm, sorry. Just have to say that in my case I was able to buy a new 124060 recently without having to sing and dance...which is a good thing for all concerned because I can do neither. Maybe I was just lucky.

Rolex in Japan had a beefcake at a barrier like a nightclub letting people in…. No stock to see anywhere except a couple getting shown a ladies watch.
12 seconds I was done and beefcake let me out.
Omega next door was full of watches as was every other brand.

Boy the Grand Seiko boutique was something else 😉

The biggest problem is that a lot of people think the daytona calibre is the best one in the world. They don't know that this is wrong.

Just wanted to chime in and say that it's awesome that Rolex is letting people get up close and personal with these popular models. I think this is a brilliant marketing move by Rolex. No one can actually buy a Rolex, so having the chance to try them on feels like a treat.

Say you want to buy the other half a Rolex for an anniversary/birthday etc how are you supposed to do that for a new one ? it's all really bollox isn't it ?
I bought my wife a used Rolex Lady Datejust for that very reason......and saved a few bob as well. She didn't know it was a used one as it looked as good as new, and even when I told her she was well pleased with it and it's never off her wrist. When she's (working) in the charity shop and anyone asks her about it she says of course its a fake, as she couldn't afford a real one hahaa.

Ten days ago, I checked the Rolex display window at a local AD. There were 10 watches on display, all marked
“Not For Sale”. Five were running, and the others were randomly set, time-wise.

I had a similar experience at my local AD recently. For years, their Rolex display case had been empty, but this time, it was filled with various models. It's an interesting shift in Rolex's approach. Anyway, I like Rolex watches even more for the possibility of getting a loan at Pawnbrokers on Oxford Street anytime. What about you?

Wow, stumbling upon a display case brimming with Rolex watches must have been a surreal experience! It's rare to see such a wide selection, especially after the usual scarcity at ADs. Chatting with the Rolex rep must have been insightful. I haven't checked out my local AD lately, but your story has me tempted. By the way, I recently came across some replica watches that are impressively authentic-looking. If you're into the aesthetics but want to save some bucks, they might be worth exploring. Just thought I'd share.

This past weekend my wife and I had walked by a Rolex dealer and all of their display cases were full. Both window and interior displays. None of the watches had correct time or dates but they were all running. It was an incredibly awkward experience, however. The store had a “greeter” that had to unlock the entrance to let us in and informed us someone would be right with us. All of the sales staff remained uninterested, remained unmoved behind the display counters, carried on conversations with each other, and never once made any eye contact with us. Me and my wife were the only non employees in the store. The interior displays had a couple of Subs, GMT’s, Datejusts, and other models. My wife and I had become just as uninterested in being in the store as the employees were with making any sort of eye contact with us, so we left. The “greeter” let me know I couldn’t take photos inside the store, but the exterior displays were fair game.

I went into a Rolex dealer last November. I wanted to get my son an Explorer for his graduate school graduation. Got my name on the list. Stopped by once a few month ago to let them know I was still interested. No call. and the graduation is tomorrow. I thought it would be a cool gift for that point in his life. I wasn't expecting the call in 7 months, but would have bought it if I got the call. I wish he wanted a Speedmaster or another Omega. But he likes the Explorer. They did have "not for sale" ones in the case both times I visited.
I’ve been on the knock list for an Explorer 36 for a good 2-3 years with one AD.

Walked into another to book an appointment for a bracelet adjustment for a Datejust I had just bought off a mate and was offered an Explorer 40 once I had registered with them.

I went back the following week to say thanks and was taken out to the window as none were display only, all were the real deal including a Daytona and all for sale.

That's unbelievably rude! I would have been tempted to yell out something sarcastic as I walked out of the store.

Yep. Pretty standard. There were rumors that in the prior years they didn't actually have movements in them. They all seem to be running now.

According to Wristcheck, they have movements and are all for sale. But they still require you to wait

In the last 30 Rolex AD and specially one, they are obligated ( after covid) to keep sales rights to buy whatever Rolex send them to show as display but not authorized to sale, when they receive it no papiers , but serial numbers, no one will take the risk of selling one .

But more or less that’s all the watches they receive by the way 😀))

To get a sub it becomes longer than usual close to a year now instead of 6 months
