and that also applies to Doug for a really cryptic rebus. Unfortunately I was slightly disadvantaged, having never seen or heard of Jimmy's show down here in Aus.
Except for the definition of one clue, I can tell you that, collectively, you all have assembled the answer. With a bit from each of several answers, assembled in one place, the answer is there. Once someone twigs to that one clue, the answer can be assembled from the bits and pieces! Oh! The one clue is not Vera Lynn. Just a random image that, once identified, will help with the answer.
I’ll give you this clue. @Charlemagne1333 should have been able to come up with the answer. I’ll say no more!
I just got a chance to look at it - and damn if that dastardly Canadian fella hasn't blind sided me. Now I am committed to get this one and saved from siting with the wife and watch the umpteenth re-run of NCIS
DEluxe! @blubarb has INDEED identified the answer to my rebus! Jimmy Durante was in a town name of Calbash when he visited a small diner run by a personable young proprietoress who didn’t know who he was. She gave him such exemplary service that he told her he was going to make her famous. The story is on Wikipedia, and it includes her name. Hence, after all of his performances, regardless of the medium, he ended his performance with “Goodnight Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are!” Well done, all! This was a group effort!
This was the clue that pulled it together to make REBUS sense - Gourd Calabash. Tricky unless you have come across it before. Calabash (/ˈkæləbæʃ/;[2] Lagenaria siceraria), also known as bottle gourd,
A nice easy one after that brain twister from Canuck. A REBUS with a strong link to the most recent (clue) who and why significant?
I somehow knew that, once Jimmy Durante was identified, the correct answer would be almost immediate. That left the calabash to be nailed down before there would be an answer.
I knew Calabash was in there, but couldn’t see how to piece it together. That was a tricky one. Good solving @blubarb
Little Britain program? Little wonder the rebus made no sense to a Canuck. I had the “Margie” part. Bring on the next rebus.
