Thanks to @JimInOz for saving me the trouble of trying to sleuth out the answer to THAT one! I would never have got it!
This inventor would come a close second to the Inventor of the printing press. And, no, the individual pictured in the one clue is not who you are after. .
That would be the monumental Charles Babbage I'd say. IMO, a stupendous intellect. I don't know the first guy, but cabbage and the abacus gave me a light bulb moment.
Well done @JimInOz . Babbage is the guy. The guy in the clue is NBA player Charles Barkley. When putting together the clues, I weighed showing the following picture of a Babbage Analytical engine, but that would have been a giveaway. I thought about ANALytical as a clue, but that was a non-starter! So abacus it was.
Anybody else got an idea? I see Sir Alec Guinness, a fish called a “sauger”, a beautiful head of platinum hair, a ham, and a diving bell. But do I see an answer to this rebus? No! Stands to reason one of our “ace” rebus solvers should come up with a tough rebus!
Alexander Graham Bell considered himself a citizen of Scotland, Canada, and the USA. In later life, he spent equal time between Boston, and Baddeck, Nova Scotia.
The fish thing may have been a stretch for me. I did speak too soon with the "American" part. Thank you. It was fun though. kfw
@Charlemagne1333 . In my mind, the fish in your rebus is a sauger. As a clue, what part did it have in the answer?
The fish is called a zander, common to European waters. I believe it is a relative of the sauger, so you weren’t far off @Canuck In keeping with the gentlemanly spirit of this thread, here’s a half a star...
Interpret the clues given and you will arrive at a name. None of the individuals in the clues is the answer to the rebus.
A classic film A clue for ya “You see, in this world, there’s two kinds of people, my friend... those with loaded guns, and those who dig”
