Can anybody advise on the safest way to post a parcel to the USA ?
For instance I've found fedex insured for about £120 and DHL about £100 for a small 0.25kg parcel. This seems a bit steep or is it normal ?
Cover on Royal mail cover only goes to £250.
Any experience will be a help, thanks in advance.

If you are shipping a watch, the insurance policy from FedEx, UPS or DHL doesn’t cover watches as far as I know. This is why additional insurance services exist like parcelpro or secursus.
I am not sure about Royal Mail regarding their policy, so better look it up.

Thanks for that. I did call DHL and told the person I spoke to that the item is a watch and she carried on and gave me a quote.

I wasn’t sure about DHL, but they do cover watches as you said. You will need to let the person working for DHL check the content of the package as it is mentioned in their website. I don’t know how to feel about that.

If you haven’t checked this thread yet, there are great infos: https://omegaforums.net/threads/best-packing-and-shipping-practices.94229/

The least expensive way to get it insured would be to use a specialised service. Maybe you could check with parcelpro in order to get an account. I don’t know if they work with non professional though. I have heard great things about them on the forum.
Another option would be secursus but I haven’t read any feedback on a claim.

In any case, be sure to read their policies.

Sercursus is 1% of the watch value. I’ve never had to make a claim but if you follow their packing instructions (and take pictures) you should be covered at a relatively low price

I’d be careful with DHL. They’ll happily sell you insurance for a watch but their terms do state that jewellery isn’t covered. I’d be nervous if I had to make a claim.

Actually it seems reasonable. Royal mail international tracked plus secursus at 1% comes to just over £40 which is much better than I thought.
