No dog in this fight but I have to say, I think the OP is turning out to be a good egg.

I get the frustration with the drive by posters, but I think in hindsight we’d agree we were unnecessarily rough, and perhaps misinterpreted his follow up question. Someone already suggested that, and I agree.

@padders It has sentimental value and it tells the time. Those two factors alone might be reason enough to wear it 😀

A fair point, but do we know it actually tells time 😉

I have owned many watches like yours. The value can be in the movement. Some of them use an A. Schild 1130 that are from (mostly German) military watches. Specifically the balance is the most desirable part.
Sadly, there is nothing Omega or gold in it.
Family heirloom? Find a display case and put it on a shelf. 😀

Hi Andy.

Could you post a photo of the rear of the watch? From the single photo of the watch, I would say that it is either fake or a bad redial, but most likely the former.

There are a lot of details that just don't add up - difficult to pinpoint with a single argument.

A bit like, "why isn't this a real moose?"

@andyals could you please post a photo of the rear of the case, as I mentioned in my first post? If I am correct there will be some certain tells of fakery which was what you asked for earlier on 😀

@andyals - I find it very frustrating that I (and a number of others in this thread) try to offer helpful advice, but you, to me, appear to insist on focusing on those who in your view act unfriendly towards you.

This is 1:1 what happened in that other "new member asking for advice" thread that has been referenced a few times in this thread already.

Could the non-moderator members who feel like they need to enforce certain rules and unwritten laws here and lecture new members without offering any help please stop posting just for the sake of it? And will the new members who come here asking for help PLEASE stop concentrating on those unhelpful replies and instead let themselves be helped by other members? That would be just swell.

@andyals - this is just a bit of friction. No-one here dislikes you. Just roll with the flow and if you like the content of the forum, stay and read along and participate. Every community has it's own way of interacting, it takes a while to get to know the tone and so on. Welcome here, I hope you like it and stay 😀

The watch by far the most precious to me is a little omega de ville that my mother bought in 1970. It has a damaged face and has no value but it keeps beautiful time and I love it. It makes me smile every time I wear it.

@andyals, you’ve not replied to any of my posts - and I was the first person to step in and defend you. And the second. This is quite a male dominated forum and I get that the testosterone can drown out female voices: but that said can you show us the inner workings of the watch and the back? Am curious to see.

I think part of the issue here is perhaps that the OP doesn't realise how much effort goes into learning how to spot a good'un and by association a bad'un, it can't really be distilled into a single succinct post. He possibly wonders why every one is being definitive about his watch without explaining how and why. Some have in fact given the reasons why in this thread but the message has perhaps been diluted by some nonsense about the warmth of the welcome, and it must be said some impatience from some of the posters.

As noted above, a pic of the caseback will help clarify what the OP has. I suspect it is the commonly seen 1960-70s vintage Marbella Special and would expect to see marks on the back more normally expected within the caseback on a genuine piece.

That said I am not sure the post directly above this one is all that helpful or accurate since the place is probably more welcoming to noobs today than it ever was under the other Dennis's watch. Memories are short it seems.
It's not me with a short memory. Dennis was always willing to share his knowledge with anyone, including noobs.
Sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case with a lot of members these days.

Perhaps I missed your insightful critique of the OP watch then. I'll look again.
