Picked up (3) really nice pieces in the last 10 days.

My watchlist is almost barren. My watches are not on the market yet. But maybe it's because they are not so nice.😬

I love this message board. I found it from doing some research on that Universal Geneve Polarouter which apparently caused quite stir around here. Are you familiar with what I'm referencing?

AnysWays...I'm psyched that this place appears to have a lot of knowledgable peeps for Longines and Universal: the unsung, underdog and sometimes underappreciated watchmakers of the watchworld.

Agreed - they don't get the respect they deserve. They're the Rodney Dangerfields of vintage watches. Those in the know appreciate them, but there aren't too many dedicated collectors for either brand like there are with Rolex or Omega.

I never got involved with Omega but I'm beginning to recognize that Omega collectors are the most serious (for lack of a better word) in this quirky subculture to which we all belong.

I don't think Omega collectors are as over the top as those of some other brands, but we are very selective about what we buy. Originality is key, combined of course with condition.

back to my original point: I'm seeing lots of good quality 14 and 18 karat Longines. They're mostly of the plain Jane - pedestrian variety but at least the price are right. I just won an auction from that "watch333" guy in Cali for a nice little 17m winder (Great movement on this watch).

Bought a Longines from him too - a caliber 285 Flagship.

Sure Rich - fire away with any questions. Tony C. and gatorcpa (we call him our InvestiGator) are really good with Longines too, among other brands. I'm sure we have one or two other members with a little experience also.

I'm looking for a great example of each automatic caliber Longines made from WWII (when they started making automatics) until the quartz revolution / crisis.

Among the worst photographers in the vintage watch trade.

+1. He makes every dial look like it's been stuccoed and whitewashed.
He probably leads the league in "better than expected" feedback, though.

Looks like Dennis picked up a legit NOS solid gold flagship. Score. He claims he sees maybe (1) every (3) years and I believe him. I just grabbed a brand new Waldan CC for next to nothing and it weighs like 300 lbs. I know for a fact that the guy sold it is because of the gold drop. He's in retail jewelery.


Lets hope gold doesn't drop another 600 bucks or I'll be eating all these gold watches 😀
