I have however just recently acquired two Zenith grails

A statement like that must be followed by a photo.

This is a great example of how this whole process can drive you crazy
A key takeaway from this thread is the desirability of the Calibre 146 Zeniths
Now I have to go looking for information on Calibre 156 ( D )

Hey how do you think I feel? I joined this forum to get some info on my collection of Omegas. 3 years later, my collection now includes Breitling, Excelsior Park, Bulova, Seiko, Heuer, Tudor, Rolex and Zenith....

I just found this one on eBay and seller is willing to drop price to $2000 usd. Looks to be in decent condition and original for the price.

I鈥檓 not an expert, but those sub dials don鈥檛 look correct to me, especially the one right/at 3 o clock, and compared to the others even on eBay..

I was about to comment that as well, but then scrolling back through this thread noticed the same sub dial on the watch posted by @CaptainWinsor on page 1.

They are recessed dials. And correct. That鈥檚 a nice example but the country of origin would make me nervous

Would appreciate some input on this 146D
I am seriously considering purchasing
It will be the most expensive watch in my collection, so naturally any input is greatly appreciated

Thanks
That particular watch has been in stock at that dealer for quite some time now (6m+), should give you some (minor) bargaining power. 馃槈

As to its originality: all seems well to me, but I am no expert.

It's not. Crown is a replacement but can be found.
Case is a bit polished as it seems, see the lugs, but facets are still visible on the lugs.

For reference, a perfect example (many pics there)

Possible. Not all chronographs had a Zenith crown though and it鈥檚 hard to say when they started etc This pic is from an early 50鈥檚 Zenith catalog

what a nice watch!

Do you think the condition and originality are good?

This example is probably from the same production run as mine. Case numbers are within 200

Hi Bob,
The watch looks correct to me, only crown is a replacement.
Dial looks nice and original to me, I don鈥檛 think it was redial but with this photo is quite difficoult to be 100% sure.
On the Bay you can find an original gold crown and also an original gold buckle if the watch has a generic one (should be 16mm)
Ask to the seller a photo of the buckle and if you like the watch try to get a good discount (no original buckle bigger discount)

good eye. I didn't see that 285 but from all of the other 146D out there I do not see a 285. This must've been a replacement

do you know where to find correct crown replacement?

Crown is a replacement. Original would have logo.

The case is gold plated which holds the value down. I feel a lack of love among collectors for plated watches.

Hi all, I鈥檓 resurrecting this thread to ask opinions about a Zenith 146D. It鈥檚 been on offer for months on eBay - hasn鈥檛 sold so it may have issues or perhaps it鈥檚 the price or location (Albania) that has deterred buyers.

18k gold case looks sharp and the movement looks clean (described as recently being serviced and the seller has perfect feedback). I鈥檝e examined the pictures of the dial looking for anomalies. I believe it may be original but the placement of the 6 o鈥檆lock marker looks off to me. Grateful for opinions on this please.
