Leave - just like the OP, the lume is consistent and complete. Sure it’s a bit “moldy” - but it’s really cool!

It’s so interesting soliciting opinions from others as I would have guessed most would call this a perfect candidate for a re-do. Thanks for the input.

My vote is for relume. Moldy lume is a deal-breaker for me.

Besides, here in the US we would panic about the mold affecting the air quality, resulting in one developing asthma or some other respiratory disease... 😎

You don't even notice it when looking at it 6" away. He offered to do the entire hand but I was hoping to see if he could do the patch and the radium on the hands and dial were excellent otherwise (that kind of chip can happen when removing and reinstalling old lumed hands during a service- it's a pressure point).
It was his first attempt- and he's gotten better since then. I use him for my restoration work and he uses me as a proving ground to expand his skills. He takes his time, he experiments on junk parts and then applies the skills it to my watches. A professional like James Hyman (who I have never used but have seen his work here) would be far more confident and probably be able to blend it perfectly- this is what he does so he has the tool kit.
As a note- my friend does electronics repairs so is used to working on very small items like PCB's and soldering 33g wire. He used to build miniature models and do elaborate paint work on them- so his skills were a natural fit for this kind of work. I on the other hand can't work this small (large mechanical things are my wheelhouse), so I wouldn't even attempt it.

He is the person who did the Camaro pictures I posted.

Yup. Those perfect little round pips are not easy! As someone who has watched someone do this kind of work- it is absolutely amazing how much skill, patience and technique it takes. Not to mention one wrong slip and you have destroyed the dial.

This thread is on its way to be one of most useful in the forum, can't reply to all that has been said above but love reading through 📖

Since ballot boxes are open, @M'Bob , I'd go for leave as-is, for the same reasons I mentioned for OP. What would you vote for mine? I guess I'm not as lucky as @JwRosenthal to go for the option of reluming the minute hand in the same colour as the hour so it's either relume both hands or leave one non-lumed 🙁

A hand missing lume is like a gapped-tooth smile.

Whereas a gap toothed smile can be sexy

A watch hand sans lume isn't

If you don't have someone that can confidently color match the single hand to match the other, I would have both done to match the lume on the dial. If whomever does the work says they just use the lume out of the little jar and doesn't color match- that isn't the person for you.

No, it never is. It’s tolerated in her case because the rest was so overwhelming.

If your person is a competent re-lumer, I would do both with hesitating.

I think is case-by-case.

I would consider a relume if the dial marks are gone and if the professional doing the relume has a proven track of good results.

I generally don't like when the tritium has aged to become green, but it actually looks pretty cool on my Mark 4.5 with a blue/green soleil dial.

On the other hand (pun-intended), I wouldn't dare to touch it on my Mark III to make the hands look closer to the dial marks:

Or ever touch the fading dial on my Mark II:

Well, that’s what it is, so no real surprise.

@JwRosenthal , thanks for the demonstration with such hilarious pics, made my day! 😁 And I've noted your many great remarks, too!

Hehe, hate to see that, too 😀 But tbh, I've found the discussion in this thread more resolved/inclined to precise responses than average. Furthermore, we've even elaborated on different cases with very teeny tiny details. I don't expect the little place left for subjectivity to lead one to indecisiveness. Or do I? Can't decide lol
