Here are two photos of my Constellation 14393 with its original unrefinished black dial. It looks perfect in the first photo, yes? Now look more closely at the second photo and you’ll see lots of patina spread over the inner flat black section of the dial. This is what you will typically find with vintage black dialed Constellations - they aren’t perfect, but they are still very expensive. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

It took me about 5 years before I found my first original black dialed Constellation that was both in good shape and a good deal.

@blopkinz its good that you’ve read ‘learn how to fish’ but that thread is meant to be a general guide to looking at vintage watches.

At the moment you are in line for winning the ‘posted the worst series of watches’ award.

If you want a Constellation- you now need to research Constellations in depth by immersing yourself in Desmond’s blog and reading the Constellation threads on OF.
