Hey everyone,

I'm looking at this classic Omega Constellation 168.005 with pie pan dial on eBay. What's everyone's opinion on it? I think it's real but I have the following concerns:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/2250760969...bU2UCWOSDe&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

1. Dial looks refinished? Some letters look thicker than others to me.
2. $2k seems high to me but that may be because it's gold.
3. The Omega sign on the crown looks a little faint. Too much polishing?

Any thoughts will be helpful. Thanks.

Dial doesn't look refinished to me. Like you, I don't think this is a $2k example.

The case is too polished for my taste. In terms of pricing, gold-capped examples shouldn't be too different from SS.

Like others have said, the case is quite heavily polished and the dial has a significant amount of ‘foxing’.

As a dogleg, pie pan, Constellation, the watch has a value but it would be nearer $1,000 than $2,000

To my eye lug edges seem visible although not 100%. There aren’t any of those left for the most part. And if there are, you’re likely not getting it at anywhere near 2K, imho. Dial freckles some will love but not me for in this, a somewhat basic Connie. Crown is a bit jacked too. And as Dan S says it’s gold cap not 18k gold. Check out other examples of same reference to see what they’ve sold for on the bay. By the way, you can check the for sale section here on OF for what has sold to give you some more input.. Good luck on your hunt

There was a recent eval thread for an example with a case in much better condition (if you wanted to see how things would ideally look like): https://omegaforums.net/threads/opinions-on-this-constellations-168-005-sc.157601/

I think even for this one, $2k was seen as too much.

Thanks for all the input. I'll pass on this one. I've been checking the private watch sales for some time now. It's tough finding a Connie with the decagonal crown. Just gotta be patient.

I think I'd rather have a service crown than a decagonal crown where the plating is completely gone, like on the OP watch.

Nice to see someone ask here before they buy a mistake. Be patient and you will be rewarded. Keep honing your eye and when a gem appears you will be ready to pounce.
This is a good thread to start your journey

Dial seem fine but those lug has been polished too much, I would definitely pass on this one.

IMO, this is a very nice watch. Not over polished. Gold capped cases have a bit softer angles than solid metals.

Only flaw is some of the plating has come off the original crown. Common occurrence on these.

However, $2,000 is too much for even a watch this nice. Maybe there is some room to negotiate.

I'm always quite suspicious with pics of a GC model, as light and view angles make it difficult to assess whether gold is missing or not on the lug edges ; in this case, some pics seem to indicate that polishing has been too harsh and reveals the SS base metal; so best for the GC models is really to have it in hand for appropriate evaluation, unless you know the seller is trustworthy.

Not a redial. If you like the varnish crazing on the dial then go for it (not my thing but many love the look). Case is in nice shape and the medallion still has its matte finish which is a good sign.

The bracelet (which I assume comes with it) has #11 endlinks and a 5-row beads of rice bracelet- which is incorrect for this reference (came with the beefy lug Seamasters). You could easily sell the bracelet for $250 and recoup the cost to buy the correct 7-row with 70 endlinks.
