Constellation 168.005 - original dial ?

Hello
I purchased my first vintage Seamaster 20 years ago and have loved it as my daily watch during all that time. Like many folks I paid my newbie tax to this hobby purchasing a redial. I have never seemed to master spotting them, no matter how much I study this forum they are always obvious when someone else points the tells out.

Anyway have seen this Constellation 168.005 for sale and looks OK to me, although the hands have some pitting yet the dial is looking a little too defect free. Would love a second opinion on this one.
Thank you
Michael

Yea need more high resolution photos from different angles but on the surface it’s a decent dogleg Piepan

Looks good at first glance let’s see more photos
Thank you for taking the time to reply, I have added some additional photos.

My own take it looked a genuine honest watch but needed a little expert reassurance

I too quite liked this one as it looked pretty genuine and not been messed with (I hope!).

Photos are blurry. Case looks pretty sharp. Need focused photos of dial.
Movement and inside Caseback photos also important.
Did you buy it already?

Better photos would include moving the hands so that the writing is visible, the case-back, and the inside.

The photos were from the eBay listing so could not get better quality images.

I did not purchase in the end as the price was pretty strong selling at 2000 USD with no service history.

For me I will keep looking and reason I did not pull the trigger is I felt at that price I could probably source in the UK as I would have postage and high tax import duties on this watch

Thank your for everyone who commented.

Agree that price is a bit high, but it seems like these pie pan constellations have been getting really expensive recently.

I hate to say it after the event - but I think you missed a pretty good one here.

As above, the price of dogleg pie pans is a little crazy of late and you may be lucky and see a 'normalisation' of prices in the future - or they could just stay up there or keep on rising.

Constellations are generally more expensive in the UK than elsewhere - so, although you would have to pay ~25% import charges, you're unlikely to find a much cheaper one, in that condition, here in Blighty.

I do agree, always a challenge in UK where everything seems expensive and has a trip to the polishing wheel

Ah, sorry about that. Was this an auction? If so, what was the final price?

For future reference I wouldn't be fussed about supposed service history. Even if a watch is advertised as 'serviced', it's hard to say what exactly that entailed. Just consider that any watch you purchase will benefit from a service.

As for this one in particular, overall it seemed like a good example. Case retains all original geometry on the dog legs, the dial is clean. Not long ago this kind of watch would've been in the 1-1.5k range, but prices for pie-pans have gone insane. $2K USD doesn't seem outrageous to me.

For what it's worth, I am in the UK and I've just purchased one in similar (I think mines a bit better) condition. I was looking for five years to get the one I did.
$2000USD + shipping +20% would have been considerably cheaper than what I ended up paying.

Thanks, I don’t think I have ever purchased a vintage watch that was serviced and never had any issue although had my vintage 1965 seamaster break with a large repair bill 10 years after I bought it. My 1971 Speedmaster lasted love the fact there is not even a micro scratch on a screw head so never ben touched and still keeps great time. So don’t put value on that.
Although I referenced as felt the price was more around retail sellers who claim a service. Although looking now after the fact myself the prices have shot up significantly more than I thought.

Did miss out as liked it and was not after a dog leg pie pan specifically but knew was the more desirable reference and I had been comparing at the time to other domed 1960s constellations and had not probably factored the delta in correctly.

Yes probably missed out here on a nice watxh
