Well, there is a target group called Young Urban Professionals or the X-Generation with loads of money and a graving for bling and sports-look. So traditional "replica" version of vintage models might not work that well on all target groups. Last year some great, sophisticated masterpieces, this year target on more sporty and younger designs.

And I love the orange PloProfs and Seamasters.....

I think that demographic would normally buy Tag, loud Breitling designs and Hublot.

Omega has to preserve their brand identity...classy designs with technological innovation.

If Basel 2016 is the direction they are going, they will lose many loyal repeat customers...including moi, mon ami. Cheers

I'm looking at mine... I just love the applied metal numerals... Now if I could just get those hands and install them on mine. I just feel the Lumed numerals make it a little too precious. But I'll still check it out as soon as it hits the store

@Nobel Prize based on what you have posted so far...I really don't think you should swap your existing Explorer 1.

For a new purchase I would certainly choose the Basel 2016 release over the previous version...but this is not such a game changing upgrade to justify a swap...heck Rolex even maintained the same ref. no.

Just installing the new hands could be a good move. Cheers

But they still do have the classy designs with tech innovations. They are merely adding to the assortment a new more fresh look. And hey, I´m 52 years and I really do like the orange accents on the Seamaster for example. Does every watch have to be a new version of Speedy ( ::stirthepot:: ) or a clone of the past ´50ies models? Look around, all classic brands are looking for new markets as we old farts ain´t gettin´any younger.

But, I do understand your concern. You must respect your traditions so you have to be really, really carefull when freshing up your line-up.

This looks a bit more promising...

What are we looking at?
Five different versions of the new moon phase?
Black, blue and what else?

I love an orange accent too old bean...which is why I purchased my Polar Explorer 2...Omega CAN be modern and elegant...look at last years Globemaster. I purchased the AT 15000 Gauss bumblebee almost as soon as it was available.

The only issue I have with the new POs is Omega maintaining the hockey puck thickness as well as the fact that many of the new designs will be limited to a pure sports watch role in a given collection. Cheers

Black, blue, Brown (TT), Whitish (YG), and a silver dial - yellow gold with green bezel...

and of course Sedna..
I've been holding off on the 9300 orange gold, in anticipation of the Sedna moonphase... I hope the Chunkiness doesn't push it too much into Planet Ocean territory...

As much as I love moonphase, and a new certification...it's hard to argue with the simplicity of this...

Anyone seen this?

That's not just a swing and a miss, that's nasty slider that the hitter decides to swing at too late and nearly falls over in total embarrassment.

This watch isn't even the over the top "Leopard" Daytona bad, it just looks incredibly cheap. When I first saw this photo the first thing that crossed my mind was "very bad knock off watch" but unfortunately it's real I guess.

LOL...your swing and miss reminds me of the late departed Jeff Healey joking around on stage in London trying to do a "Jimi" and bash his guitar on a chair with assistance of his roadie crew.

Thanks for giving me inspiration of what to listen to while working today. Jeff is certainly missed in this household...fortunately his music lives on.

I am disappointed with Omega this year.

They've been fantastic the last few years with the DSOTM, GSOTM, 57, 300, Globemaster, Tresor, ploprof.

I don't hate everything they've done this year, but nothing stands out.

Still extremely happy with the broad arrow 57 I got last year. Nothing this year makes me want to stop wearing it.

I can't get why everyone is raving around Explorer.
Because everything that current owners complained about has been fixed by Rolex. Definitely an upgrade with the elongated hands and white numerals. The previous stainless 3-6-9 was terrible.

Omega put this up on Instagram about an hour ago. They say they are releasing six new calibres [presumably all Master Chronometer].

These are the examples I can think of:

* No-date [platinum Globemaster]

* Date only [non-platinum Globemaster, Planet Ocean]

* Date + GMT [Planet Ocean]

* Date + Annual Calendar [funky Globemaster]

* Date + Chronograph [Grey Side with meteorite dial]

* Date (on sub-dial) + Chronograph + Moon phase [Blue Moon, Blood Moon, etc.]

Addendum: If there is a date wheel lurking behind the dial of the platinum Globemaster, then maybe the sixth new calibre is a smaller-diameter calibre for the Chocolate Planet Ocean?

I made a mistake by identifying the new Speediorite as an example of one of the new METAS-certified calibres. The new Meteorite Grey Side of the Moon does not have an anti-magnetic movement, but rather, the well-entrenched Cal. 9300.

A proper example of a Date+Chronograph METAS-certified watch would be the new Planet Ocean chronograph.

Even the Grey dealers won't be able to give that watch away. I suggest parting them out at the factory and trying again.
