B-b-b-buttt, you can't be considered luxury unless you bling every single surface and element of the dial (or so Rolex would have us believe).

Well this is a response to the market, as well as Rolex. 10 or 12 years ago on various forums the words "applied markers" seemed to be everywhere, and any watch that didn't have them was considered "cheap" in some way. A simple painted dial was passé, and over time many brands have embraced the surrounds as the new normal.

Quite honestly I hate them...as well as the shiny dials, and this is the primary reason why no modern Rolex will ever likely be on my wrist...

Cheers, Al

So wondering to know whats the difference between 8500 vs 8900?
8500 + METAS = 8900? 😕

Yes.

This.

@Riviera Paradise the Explorer is less shiny than the rest of Rolex's range, but it's still shiny! And I don't like shiny on a sporty tool watch.

I think applied markers work in some cases and not in others. I don't hate applied markers and I don't hate panted dials. It just depends on the particular watch.

I have watches with applied markers...none of them are sport watches...

Nice work Omega, the thread on Omega Forums titled "Omega @ Baselworld 2016" has been largely about a new Rolex model. Ouch.

My old SM PO 600 m Ti 45.5 is a calibre 8500 not Metas cert not anti Magnetic to 15000 Gs .It just says Co Axial chronometer on the dial. The new SM PO 600 in baselworld says master chronometer on the dial calibre 8801

YOU wear a 45.5 8500 PO?
i don't mean to offend or stereotype, but i can imagine that looking a little big...
or maybe that avatar pic ain't you.

I promise that I will try and not post any more comments on the Rolex Explorer 1😀, but....Monochrome Watches have just put together a great piece with some very good pictures for the new version....I really can´t see much "shiny" stuff here @abrod520...

https://monochrome-watches.com/role...s-new-indexes-2016-edition-live-photos-price/

If these pictures capture what the watch will look live, I will certainly be very interested.

I think this new Explorer 1 could actually manage to be more "sporty/casual" than a SS bracelet AT but at the same time more formal than a Sub (which some feel comfortable using with a tuxedo😀).

Nice work Omega, the thread on Omega Forums titled "Omega @ Baselworld 2016" has been largely about a new Rolex model. Ouch.

Great point and I think it is directly related to two factors:

1) The confused, over designed range Omega has delivered so far for Basel 2016...leading to frustration for those who actually admire the brand.

2) A demonstration that this debating space is a democratic forum with non-biased opinions on watch brands, au contraire to some Rolex Fan Boy forums where everything Omega does is always put down, independent of true worth.

Cheers

Yeah, other than the shiny dial, shiny indices, shiny hands, and shiny bezel, there's nothing shiny on that one at all...🙄

Dear @jcmartinez98

My Dad & Brothers are watch collectors too. Why cant woman wear large watches ? If guys dig small watches why cant i do the same with big watches ? Sorry to disappoint You but i'm not exactly your dainty or bling2 poster girl from next door. I've watches ranging from 26 mm i think to 45.5 /48 ...Wait a minute...i can also pull it off wearing my G Shock Rangeman GW9400...! Thats a 55.2 x 53.5 x 18.2 mm tool that can double up as a slash weapon across the Face !!!...You didnt see that coming did you...? [emoji41]
Younger generations in South East Asian Nations tend to wear oversized watches..thats why lots of Western Tourists are rather surprised to see the watches on local ladies... I will tell you something else..It's just a weird habit but i always wear 3/4 mechanical watches a day ( i dont need a watch winder ) switching from one to another every 6/8 hrs ! I Kid You Not , Sir ...!

AARRRGH!!! this was trick to make me post again....I will rise to the bait.

Of course I won´t question an Archer´s eyesight, but for me the new Exp 1 dial is no longer glossy, the bracelet is brushed and the numerals no longer applied metal shiny things....so perhaps we can agree that there has been a reduction in "shinyness" overall?

Actually I suppose my vision might be slightly off here in NY, I just had a late breakfast and I was looking out over at Central Park from my hotel room when a Peregrine Falcon just dived right in front of me...(I absolutely love falcons and birds of prey). Very sunny today in NY, but snow predicted for Sunday! Hope to be touring the watch boutiques nearby soon...will have to wait for the wife to get tired😀

BTW the Burberry bag is not mine😀

If Ms. Fox is a young lady who has yet to reach adulthood, she shouldn't feel obligated to post photos of herself at all. Let her remain a young woman of mystery 😀

It's really not a bad-looking watch - it's simply those polished surrounds on the markers & numerals that turn me off. To me, watches are about the small details, and I find that post-1016 era, while the Explorer I gets the big stuff right, the small stuff is wrong. If it had a painted dial like the 1016, I'd be all over it!

I could not possibly be more "with you" on that one mate!

Ughhh as said previously in this thread (or possibly elsewhere) it pains me to no end that 36mm is just too small for my wrist - I want so badly to be able to wear a 1016 but just can't 🙁 because

That. Is. Gorgeous.

Which is why the 39mm Explorer I would be so perfect if only it had a painted dial...
