I was on a Zoom call with my CEO yesterday; he wore an Apple Watch. ....

........ .

I refuse to call those things as watches.
For me it's a device, useful for many and many things but definitely not a watch in my books!

Once she was home and I found out what she had been up to I had it serviced and it was as dry as a bone, 😀

Taken on dry land a couple of weeks ago,
Pardon my ignorance but why the concern that your daughter had worn it underwater? Isn't it rated down to 666ft?

Playing safe given its age.

Vocabulary changes over time. I have a handheld computer that everyone refers to as a "phone" 😁

I myself have been bear wrist for numerous years... up to the time I turned 40 and saw a good friend of mine with a nice vintage Zenith El Primero.
That's what got me in... this and my first constellation. 😉
Since then my collection has became kind of bushy 😬... and I wear nice vintage watch I love and change those everyday.
And now I have new feelings. Like this sort of late anxiety about which watch I should bring with me for holidays : can I do with only one ? Is it possible ? mmm I don't think so. But then which one ?

Anyway : people without watch are only people who haven't had a watch on their wrist they like I think😝

That’s interesting- all of my vintage watches go to the bank safe when I’m on holiday. That is the last place I would think to bring a watch I really care about. I don’t want to have to worry about a watch getting lost; or stolen; or damaged.

So it’s a Swatch watch, or another cheap modern quartz watch.

The other day, I was in a small town jewelry shop that sells vintage watches. I said something to the owner about how young people don't wear watches these days. She disagreed. She said many bosses have strict policies about cellphones at work, and she sells a lot of watches to young folks these days.

What does that mean? People can’t have their cell phones on at work?

Thats very insightful.

The more that people gravitate to cell phones, tablets, Smart watches, Fit Bits, and other gimcrack means of telling time, the better it is for we watch collectors! Just think how slim the pickings would be if the legion of such people who buy this carp, were collecting what we collect, instead. The grandchildren of these people could well be wading around up to their ankles in obsolete modern tech! Good on them!

People are turning back to watches more than ever after companies are starting to ban “smart” watches just like cellphones

Yes, for many young hourly workers the employers have a strict no cellphone policy. I believe this is a common practice in the US.

So true. The phrase "obsolete modern tech" says it all. The gear is obsolete one year after you buy it. I enjoy the care and preservativation of watches. I pay significantly more money to my watchmaker than I spend on watches.

What is your response to this statement?
Maybe so, but my Speedmaster never rings with unsolicited calls from auto warranty services or scammers pretending to be from the Social Security Administration...

Yes of course you're right syrte !
My seiko skx0013 will surely come with me... but I was thinking to bring along another one... Though the perspectives of loss/steal/damage is what will lead me not to (Still have 12 hours to decide 😀)

Few Sundays ago I stopped at my gym to wash the windows......gulp...as I was finishing the windows I noticed class was just ending and I checked the time 11:55am. I loaded up my gear and jumped in the truck looked at my watch and NO Watch!!! After looking all over the gym, tracing back over my every movement and checking with every person who would listen showing them pictures of my Constellation checked the gym again, got the owners of my gym to post on Facebook pictures of my watch on the gym page and in the downtown business page checked everywhere!! I thought, “you will never own an Omega watch again”.
Got home announced to wife and kid, watch is gone. Feeling sick I walked out to the porch in utter disappointment in my self THEN. KID walks out and says “you are a dumb shit, it was in the winder”.

Thanks for the explanation, I suspect it’s also better for their health to not spend all their time on their phones- but I had never heard of such a thing.
