I mean, c'mon, he looked cooler signing an autograph than other stars did when they posed for magazine covers!

But as I have definitively answered my own question 😁, here's something more challenging to chew on: what is the watch that he is wearing? It sure ain't no HEUER Monaco...

He used silence like no one else. That is an argument for ultimate coolness

Paul Newman in Hombre is cool too; when asked; why should we follow you his answer: because I can hack it lady reached to pinnacles of coolness. And he gave away his Daytona. Personnally if silence use is not an issue Elvis and his repertoire of 423 songs does spring to mind.
Vinnie Jones could bé silent too 😀

I agree, but I also love this scene:

"I never stood a chance..." 😁

Benrus 3061, otherwise known as the “Bullitt” Benrus. Benrus re-released a new version in 39mm.

I can't tell you how many times I have watched Bullet. Everybody remembers when he came to Alaska in 1972. He is a personal hero. Too cool.

What about Don Knott's aka Gomer Pyle or Barney Fife.

Check out Scottish composer and performer Ivor Cutler on YouTube. This cut from his spectacular performance of “Shoplifters”.

To the OP question. I would vote for the benrus as we know he had one.

When zooming on with my phone I did not see originally the figures and thought I was looking to some eterna kontiki … I would have like the idea of him wearing those ;-)

To the other contributors proposing other kings of cool : they do look cool even though I had no idea of who they were in the first place.
I think McQueen was somehow more universal at least for some dated generations (including mine) 😉

Well there was the king of cool……Dean Martin 😗

Funny as I have a picture of my dad in his butchers coat and apron with Sammy Davis Jr in a headlock.
Whenever Sammy came to Australia he used to buy his own steaks for the Hilton hotel to cook from my old man’s shop, he managed the butchers shop in David Jones food hall in Sydney.

Dino never used the phone which is very cool. Sammy Davis was a great cook but couldn't replicate a meal, according to Bill Cosby. It was Lauren Bacall who said you guys look like a rat pack, one morning. It stuck

For me, Steve McQueen will forever be Virgil Hilts, the "cooler king." "Just make it Hilts."

I would postulate James Garner or Paul Newman though.

They both made better movies and were better races. Garner even did the Baja…
