Nice car and once you get the watch , great set
Thank you. I think matching the 74 would be great, with matching color theme as well

So in terms of value I am sure as original and mint would determine the higher price, but how about box, paper etc? Also I am actually looking for one with some sign of distress, scratches on dial, small dents etc, but prefer a mint case. I like to see some “age” on my watch. Is that normal?

Have just the watch for you then. 69 but...

Welcome!!! I had a ‘73 3.0cs for almost a decade, great era for BMW. Seems to be a correlation between Watch guys and vintage German cars.

Luckily the era you are hunting is the more common era (I have a ‘72 that falls into the same time period). They did that run for a long time which means more out there and not crazy collectible like the pre-moon or other rarities.
Agreed with above-take your time. The right year will pop up. Speedmasters are not rarities like many believe, there is no reason to settle for a beater, a nicer one will pop up sooner than later. Let the full kit ones go to the collectors, and avoid the eBay “this was my grandfather’s watch” temptations.
You will find a good value for a daily wear in the classifieds here- serviced and ready to go, just be patient, do your homework, and don’t be penny-wise pound foolish

I like the advice directly above. I’m in the same market—looking for an late 60s or early 70s Speedy. Be patient and keep reading the forums, Speedy101, and looking at the pics. Take a look at what has sold/is selling, time on market, and prices.

Buy something that is appealing to you. And don’t worry too much about the full-set collector watches.

Definitely. Like my cars I only buy and keep what I like to drive the heck out of them. If I can’t or lost interest I would rather sell it than to keep it sitting in the garage. Same as my watches, I have a few but this speedy I plan to daily it so I wanna find something I really like and enjoy wearing

Should be practically the same.

right on. And usually how often does it required servicing as a vintage daily? But I only need to service it if the watch is severely delayed right

5 years is recommended I believe by most collectors.

I think this one is right on. But it will have to be my next one as I just concluded a deal for a -69 with DON. It’s not as mint as yours but it’s got some “distressing” characters I am looking for. I will post some pictures when I get it

Box and papers will add to the price, not to the wearability. If you buy to wear and not to collect, you can forget about them imho, and concentrate on searching for a watch with a pleasing patina.

Edit: slightly OT, but why not posting a picture of your BMW? nice car, and 70s ones are not seen that often...

Here is a pic of my 74 bm02
