Hello I have just today joined as I have been tasked by a family member to help with ther relations large collection of watch parts, loads of Omega dials and watch case parts etc, i have only been asked to help as they have zero idea on computers, I'm by no means an expert, but have managed to find this place, which seems a natural place to ask for advice if I may.

Background story is the person was Into watches there whole life, no other family members were particularly interested, sadly on there passing the realisation was there were thousands of parts and nobody has a clue what to do with them, my advice was to put in auction.

Today I went and got literally a car full of boxes of random items, I'm only know there are lots of omega a there plenty of dials and bare watch cases which say Omega on, lots of official Omega small blister packs with parts in, loads of small plastic Omega canisters, lots of Omega literature seemingly dealer pamphlets etc.

There are also hundreds and hundreds of Omega crowns (i only know there called that as I did a image search lol) I will upload some photos if people say its ok to do as I'm not sure I'm allowed, or it's the done thing, the crowns to me lots look like Gold but I don't know how to tell.

Sorry for typing loads, but I just want to help my relation as much as possible really, hence being here and seeking advice.

I'm based in the UK.

Thank you.

Posting pictures is a good idea, I guess. You are not allowed to sell in the forum. Posting pictures and asking if they are original, how sought after by collectors etc and approximate evaluation is okay. But expecting experts to evaluate crates of parts is not practical/ fair.
Best to do your research and ask about some parts you feel are valuable. Dials are parts that may hold a lot of value, crowns not so much. Certain models like constellation, speedmaster, seamaster (divers) hold more value than others.
Or you can post some of the spread out crates so experts can have a overall look and help you pick up special parts and may be give a ball park overall evaluation which might help you doing a lot deal, which might be your best bet if you are looking for liquidation fast and this sort of thing is not your deal.

That is quite a collection. Can you tell us any more about it? For example, there appears to be a name (Mr Gumby?) on one of the dials - is that a name you or a relative recognise? Was the original owner an avid collector or a watchmaker/repairer?

I believe just a collector but there is so much stuff possibly a repairer aswell especially as there are what seems like workshop books and manuals? No there name wasn't Gumby (i didn't even notice that good spot)
I will get some more photographs of the other stuff if you would like, as I say there are literally thousands of bits. I'm sure not all Omega as some Tissot boxes some Rolex stuff etc then just huge amount of "stuff"

Do you have any more watch parts you haven't shared? it doesn't just have to be Omega.

Oh boy. Seeing the amount of stuff I feel your best bet would be a bulk liquidation. Of course you will only realise a fraction of the value but there is work involved in selling separately. And some of those stuff will not be sellable after it’s been picked through. I hope someone more capable will be along to help you though I don’t know how.

I see a few things I want. 🤤
There are some desirable parts for sure so even at a bulk sale don’t give it away.
If I was in the UK I would already be in my car and on the way to your door.

As i say i have only put photos up that I know are Omega (as it says lol). And I probably have only put up 50%

I will get a few pics of other stuff that are things like small parts watch glasses springs etc etc.

If your looking at selling its probably best to just put them in eBay loads of people will know exactly what they are even if you don't

It’s a difficult one. To maximise value you’d sell as small lots or individually, certainly the higher value items. However, as you don’t know much about them, and it’s a big job going through, you’re likely best selling in bulk to someone who is willing to buy the lot in one go. You’ll likely only get 25-40% of the total value but then the buyer will be the one doing all the work.

I think the best thing to do might be to find a used parts reseller. A knowledgeable person would be able to identify a lot of the parts and they would have the wherewithal to organize and re-sell them. I think @Davidt is being a little optimistic about getting 25-40% of the total value. If someone buys this lot to re-sell it, they will probably only ever sell 10% of the parts. I would say that getting 5% of the full market value of every part would be more than reasonable.

Let's say there are 5,000 decent parts. A correct branded crown in good condition, for someone who needs that exact crown, might have a "value" of $50. Same with many movement parts, more for balances. Dials and cases would be at least $100. So, hypothetically, the full retail value of all the parts could be hundreds of thousands of dollars. However, there is absolutely no realistic way that anyone could realize even a small fraction of that amount.

Collectors and watch repairers need these parts, so please don't discard them.
