New Bond Omega?

I don't like the MOD touches. Even though it comes from the factory, it seems fake to me, like guys who buy army surplus fatigues and play weekend warrior but have never actually served. I kinda feel like those things should be acquired honestly. The "aged" lume (air quotes intentional) also feels inauthentic to me. Overall, it's way better than that ridiculous (imho) edition with the tiny little 007s engraved on the dial or the sweep second hand with the gun on it, but I don't see ever having this in my (albeit small) collection. If I wanted MOD markings and aged lume, and I do, I'll get a dirty dozen.

The difference is a Sub gains 20% in value the moment you leave the AD.

This???

That won't last, people are fed up with it, they dragged the hype out far too long. Loads on the forums and off have gone right off Rolex and are past caring. Sure, there's still plenty of idiots who still pay over the odds to wear a square boxy Submariner on their wrist, and some for the old, but nowhere near as many as they used to have. The saddest part is in London, and maybe elsewhere, but can't call it for the US, you take your life in your hands wearing a Rolex these days.

Good luck getting one from your AD after you spent years begging them to sell you one.

I Believe the reason for the aluminum is to be more consistent with the vintage look. I personally like Aluminum Bezels over ceramic.

Haha! How did I know you were going to ask?!?! 😀 Well, I currently have the Diver 300M LE, 1948 Small Seconds LE, and 50th Anniversary LE. What I am looking at next are one (if not all) of three items:

1. Aqua Terra World Timer
2. Apollo 8
3. Seamaster 300 Titanium

But, I am also waiting on official rumours of an Apollo 13 LE (if Omega is making one). We'll see....!

😲

Cool list.

Ok so, I was lucky enough to be able to try the Prototype on in the OB - I think I’m gonna stay on the list ... pictures aren’t the best with the lighting but here you go... the bracelet is fantastic. You either like the style or you don’t, but it feels like a very nice timepiece ....

Overall it is a fantastic watch. The only thing I would have changed is the bezel with a matt ceramic one!
I could not grasp the idea, whats the association with Dr No? Why didn’t they put at the end 20, like associating it with No Time To Die, instead of that 62 leaving a trace to first Bond movie? Do they want to say this would be the last one?

I think it's a spoiler nod to the main villain in the new film being Dr No (possibly). There are other hints from Bond aficionados that indicate this could be linked to that film/storyline so, in effect, Bond (movie-wise) has gone full circle.

The vintage lume on this isn't t dissimilar from the Rolex Sub worn by Connery in 1962 too. Is that a coincidence? - hmm, not sure.

Based on the positive posts so far for the new Bond Seamaster, I think it is great to see that the "fauxtina" hate has subsided. I recall in 2014 when the SM300MC was launched, so much hate was thrown at this dial....

I think many previous fauxtina "haters" are now OK with warmer colour option for the dial indices, an option often more interesting than stark white.

Ref the aluminum bezel vs ceramic option, the often criticized Bremont have managed to do non-glossy ceramic bezels on the S301

But I have to say that Omega have found a way to match the aluminum bezel and tropical dial colour perfectly on this new Bond watch. Another positive is the Omega titanium mesh bracelet offering a great non-polished look.

It’s a cool watch do not normally like the 300 mainly cause of the hands and bezel but this color scheme makes it work and I would wear one. As many others the price is 100% insane and I have been saying that about most omega watches for 5 years. I have owned 2 and currently still own one and I like them but for their marketing the price is way too high.

maybe that’s another reason I like them as they are a good watch and I don’t buy watches for resale / value, but it’s nice almost every model is 20-30% off retail from a trusted seller. That said this model should be priced at 6500 and trusted sellers should be around 4500-5k.

Guilty as charged!!! Not only that, but I've since purchased a watch with fauxtina, a Breitling Blackbird. 😎

Omega have posted a short video of the New York.launch event.

"Money shot" at 0.04s

I have to admit it does look gorgeous on the mesh bracelet.

Omega Boutique on 5th Avenue told me it’s not limited, but the number they get ‘will be’ - whatever that means .... may be something between normal supply and a Rolex [insert steel sports watch] situation .... I put a deposit down, but I’m second guessing myself every time I think about it - seems like a lot of coin on the one hand, but on the other, not really ‘worse value’ than a sub etc... Figure I’ve got a few months to gather my thoughts!

how much did they ask you to put down? They told me 100% which seemed extremely silly.

@abrod520 My initial shock at US$9K was based on the current price of the SM300 diver. Now I recall that the total cost cost of my Apollo 11 45th Speedy LE + the OEM Ti bracelet was approx US$9K. Still, I think the Speedy LE with with gold accents on dial/bezel + solid Ti bracelet seems to be a better value proposition at US$9K.

Happy to see that the new Bond diver seems to have got overall good reviews on various watch sites/blogs. As Omega collectors I think we all welcome improved brand perception.😀

Like I said, there's still something about titanium divers... that go-anywhere, do-anything feel without the usual heft. The 45 is a cool watch to be sure, but it wasn't a forever keeper for me ultimately; I think the dial just didn't quite do it for me. The dial on the Bond watch looks lovely so far, and so I'll be putting my money where my mouth is and picking mine up sometime after February 😁

I actually am a huge fan of the character in your avatar. Maybe we can get a 'Magnum' watch!!! What's the watch he is wearing when swept out to sea?
Special Magnum Movember edition?.....not sure he wore anything besides the sub though ?
GMT--noted
Just looked, yup it's a GMT Master. Apparently before that he wore a Chronosport Sea Quartz 30

Magnum was well-known to wear a GMT-Master. One of the small things that I enjoy about the new one currently on CBS is, he still wears a tritium-era GMT which is a pretty cool detail. As with all CBS dramas though, it's already getting soapy halfway through its second season :/

It’s a nice looking watch but would you buy one if you currently owned a current 300 diver. I’m not sure. It’s the same watch or even a lesser watch I’d you think it had no date.

Then consider the price. In the Uk a diver costs 4 grand and this is 7 which is Rolex and IWC Portuguese territory.

Unless your a bond super fan are many people going to buy this.

I really love it. It looks gorgeous. The price: uff... CHF 9'200 vs. 5'150 - that's a 78% premium, which is very, very steep (although one must admit the base steel model is priced extremely fair).

As I bought the Apollo 11th Anniversary Speedy this year I'll have to skip this one. Well maybe I should think about it again...

Finally Omega goes back to the 1960s black dial Seamaster toolwatches after a period of waved dial Seamaster glitterballs !
Like the MOD touch but they should loose the toothpaste cap He valve...
Then again... De gustibus non est disputandum
