Hello all,
new to the forum and collecting. I recently purchased a case (166.026) in decent shape. I found a 565 movement for it and the right crystal. I was wondering if you anyone could tell me what size dial is the right one for this movement and case. Also my watchmaker said I would need a bezel for this case. Can anyone tell me the part number and where I might be able to locate one? Thanks in advance.

This is a Cosmic case, so you will want a Seamaster Cosmic dial for it. The dial diameter needed is 30.5 mm.

Regarding your watchmaker's comment about the watch needing a bezel, I suspect he is not familiar with this model, because it has no bezel...

Thank you. Your advise is much appreciated. I will start looking for that dial.

Also forgot to ask if you can you possibly tell me what the part number for the correct crown and also what type of hands would be correct as well? Thank you again

Maybe he was talking about the inner "bezel".

There is no inner bezel either, just the tension ring on the crystal.

Crown - 069ST42527

Hands will depend on the dial, but there are some options:

For dials with lume - 065PZ1220 for the hour and minute, and 066UZ1377 for the seconds.

For dials without lume - 065TZ1210 for the hour and minute, and 066UZ1377 for the seconds.

Thank you again Archer! You are a wealth of knowledge!

so I came across a few dials. wanted to get some opinions on them, the blue one has a few scratches. The one I am concern about is across the Seamaster script. Asking around $150 for that. Second one is the off white that has some small discolorations but comes with a set of hands and a damaged case and OK crystal and the crown that I can't use since my case is stainless steel. this set for around $200. And finally the third one is a gold dial around $150 as well. It's clean but has two dents at around 11 and 4 marks which I think are the opposite of where the dial pins are on the back of the dial. Someone must have pushed too hard. Can this be fixed easily? are any of them worth the asking money? I attached some pictures. Appreciate the help and your input in advance.

FWIW, my $.02. Seems like you have turned up some Cosmic dials very quickly. That’s promising.

The blue dial scratch on the text would drive me crazy. Same with the white one.

The gold one also has some scratches, but I think it would be mainly an absolute mismatch for your steel case.

There are many dial variations for Cosmics. You might want to first decide on the colour/style you like best, and then keep hunting for one in great condition. I have one with a sparkle dial; one of my favourite watches.

Thank you for your input. What do you think of the price range?

ps: As much as I like the blue dial I think that scratch on the script would pull my eye to it every time as well.

If money is your no. 1 concern I would skip that project if I where you and buy some complete cosmic.
Those projects have a tendency to turn into a money grave 😁

I am slowly coming to realize that ! Unfortunately I have accumulated almost all needed parts except the dial and the hands so I must see this through! I Have come into watch collecting in lieu of collecting and resorting classic cars and motorcycles. Even with car/bike restorations I did work with a budget, although I have a habit of putting entirely too much money in a restoration, well beyond the value of the project. I guess it's better than gambling or drugs! As I'm getting older it's getting physically harder to work on those and also auction houses like Barret Jackson came along Making the prices sky rocket. Now everyone that has a piece of junk wants insane amount of money for husks that I used to get for next to nothing. So now I have switched to vintage watches. Same idea of rescuing something mechanical and make a beautiful end result.

I think that the second and third dials are both incorrect for a SS case.

Welcome to the hobby, and as noted above, hopefully you are doing this for the fun of the project. The c-case Cosmics are not particularly rare or expensive to find intact. And a watch put together from parts will have little re-sale value. However, it can be a fun conversation piece. 👍

Thank you I am starting to see that about the last 2. And Yes, I do it for the love of it!
