Markings under the bezel meaning?

Hello OF,

So I have been looking at Christie's auction for next week and found out this Tasti Tondi, which had some marks on the under bezel. I have found these marks on a newly-owned IWC as well. Does anyone know what do they mean? Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
J.

I would be curious to see if the serial number of the case itself (not the movement serial, usually inside the caseback) begins with “952”. Older pocket watches used to have the case serial number on the caseback, the inside of the bezel, and on the case frame itself so you could tell if all pieces were matching original. Some times you would find it done by hand with Roman numerals on the midcase or bezel instead of stamped. This looks like that but just a guess.

That actually could make sense. I could check on my IWC and share it here.

Okay now that I see it -it appears to be the production year. 952 = 1952? f7a17ba9e2e8f4b9acf61ee096d366bc.png

My initial guess was September, '52. Could be the last three of that case number?

I’d bet it’s the last 3 digits of the case number. Very common for keeping the case parts matched up.
