Looking for my first Seamaster De Ville, target price?

Hey OF,

I am looking for my first Seamaster De Ville, preferably in stainless with date, I am based in the UK. I wondered if I could get some advice on a good target price to aim for. I have seen a fair few out there, (quite a few on Chrono24), but with wildly differing prices (£600-£1500)? Any thoughts on what I should be aiming for?

Thanks!

If only it was that straightforward. Sadly.

There are lots of SDVs out there in various conditions and for different prices, as you’ve seen.

Some will be well priced but many will be overpriced, or over polished, or in poor condition.

If you haven’t already read this thread ‘Learn how to fish’, it’s a very good starting place.

When you find what you think might be okay, start a thread with lots of good photos from the seller and OF fellow members will happily chip in.

Good luck

It depends as these came with lots of different dial variations. If it’s one of the more common versions (i.e. plain silver or champagne) then possibly you will find one for £600 - £800. The rarer dials such as black, grey, ribbon effect etc. can fetch considerably more.
I wouldn’t use Chrono24 for your research as some dealers are in cuckoo land with their prices.

Ah I thought that might be the case! Thanks both! I prefer one of the more common dial colours, silver etc.

It does seem that Chrono24 has a fair few expensive ones on compared to some other places. However, I did find this one which seems ok I think? A fair few scratches on the dial though, looking at the images, which could be a concern - https://www.chrono24.co.uk/omega/om...20-automatic-cal-562-serviced--id19075092.htm. Any thoughts?
There will be nice looking watches, and this looks nice and in fair condition but you have to factor in a further 20% tax into the UK and this pushes up the price, if not the value.

Hi danny!

additional to the various scratches on the dial (which is already a reason to skip this one IMO)
you have a bent/twisted minute hand without lume and a case which has lost its defininiton due to strong polishing.
I cant't see if there is lume left on the hour hand.

For nearly 1000€????

A better "Pre-Deville" is for sale in the Private Watch Sales for 700€ (I have no connection to the seller)

+1. That is a beauty of a watch which I would certainly like to own if I wanted another "date" watch. It looks a lot nicer than the Chrono24 watch, the price is absolutely fair and I'm surprised it is still there. I too have no connection with the seller. I just know a good dress Seamaster when I see one.

Thanks very much for the advice, to be honest I didn't even see that (I thought it was the front case that was warping the image). That pre-Deville _is_ lovely, will have a proper look. Just not sure about the rose gold for me to be honest!

Does it have to be a SMDV?
This ones similar to a SMDV and in the UK. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20351117...-53481-19255-0&campid=5338788128&toolid=10001

I’ve bought from this guy before and he did accept a lower offer.
You would need to factor in service costs.

Thanks @Noddyman, appreciate the link. I do prefer a Deville to be honest, I have been after one for a fair old while, but that is a nice watch!

Completely forgot that I would have to pay VAT on imports, thanks for pointing out!

Any thoughts on this one? Looks like one of the lugs is scratched heavily, and needs a good clean, but don't think the dial is in bad condition.

Hmmmm, are they the right hands?
I think those hands are correct for this model.
You need to be careful with SMDV’s as they came in different case sizes. This one I suspect is the smaller model (165.004) at around 32mm without crown and houses a CAL 671 movement. The full size version is approx 34mm without crown.
