Longines Cal.30l 1965 | Opinion on this possible purchase?

Evening guys,

I've got an opportunity to purchase this piece,

Coming from a very reputable seller who has confirmed the piece has had no rework done on the dial. The movement to me looks in pristine condition, as well as the watch for its year.

The serial number dates it to 1965 with the popular Cal.30L

Could I ask for the more experienced Longines enthusiasts their own opinion on the piece?

Looks very nice and correct. My only nitpick would be that the box is from much earlier than the '60s, but, ironically, is more desirable as a result!

You're welcome. One other small point:

The crown is shown sitting away from the case. If that is because it is in the "out" position, then all should be well. But I would clarify that point with the seller before buying, as there could also be an issue.

Tony C knows orders of magnitude more than I do, but agree this watch looks fine. Saw your post in another part of the forum as well and you said your budget was 150-200£. If you can get this watch for that, don't pass go, don't collect $200, just buy immediately, especially if this is solid gold (can't manipulate photos enough on ipad to look for a hallmark on caseback). Even gold-filled under £200 is very reasonable.

I've had to up my budget slightly since then, I realised it would take me a great deal to find a watch within my earlier budget that I really loved and was of great quality. Didn't mind upping the budget as long as the piece I get is worthy of a higher price (if that makes sense!)

I'm pleased this watch is getting feedback! What in terms of pricing should I be looking at for this piece?

Only asking as it's my first vintage watch, and I wouldn't want to pay over the odds for it, thanks for you help! 😀

Both a 30L and a 30LS live here and the watches are fabulous for keeping accurate time. The 30L family of movements are exceptional.

I am not your man to be making educated comparisons between the classic movements of both Omega and Longines, but ...

... of the watches I have on hand, I'd bring the Longines 30L to any "movement accuracy and reliability" contest I might attend.

Yes I did this piece, very nice.

I've been looking for a champagne/gold colored dial, there's been quite a few I have looked at! I've set myself a criteria of: Must be UK based, would prefer a champagne dial without a whole dial of numbers, for example only having the: 12,3,9,6 in numbers. Whilst still trying to find a piece that is in good condition and not an obvious redial! Tricky! 😉
