Buyer beware. Do not purchase from this scammer under any circumstances!

The quick story:

Inquired about Speedmaster Pro on the Breitling forum. We worked out a "deal" price and I sent him the money through PayPal F&F. Was promised the watch would be sent out overnight delivery via FedEx and that I'd receive a tracking number very soon. Fast forward to 10:30pm that evening without receiving any information. Seller states that he "couldn't make the cut off" and that if I wanted a refund he'd give it to me. I explained that I would like a refund as the deal terms were not met. He simply replied with "on it" and I have never heard from him again.

Yes, it was my fault for using F&F and I never will again. Luckily I used a credit card with the F&F so I will hopefully be able to dispute the charge on the credit card end. But what a mess.

Went back in to check his PayPal profile and his photo wasn't even of a male. I woke up this morning and my email account passwords had been hacked of the ones that I gave him "for refund". Seems very convenient this happened within hours of his disappearance.

Buyer beware!

I felt I needed to bring your attention to a scammer called Robert 'Bob' Long based in Bungay Norfolk. I purchased a Rolex Tudor Monte Carlo from him six weeks ago through ebay, he seemed genuine as did the watch.

Long story short I got the watch after a couple of weeks (he insisted on collection in person so my niece who lives nearby collected it)

When I had it in hand something seemed off, I noticed the serial number was out of range, which lead to much more digging and ultimately revealed it was fake. (A reason I stick to Omega as a rule of thumb). I contact a Rolex expert and good friend I known fellow forum member who confirmed it was fake. I hadn't told Jason (owner of sweepinghands) of the owner or their location, simply showed him pictures of the watch.

I contacted the seller who initially gave me a lot of grief saying it wasn't fake, making many accusations such as I had let someone tamper with it and I was dishonest etc etc.

After much deliberation and dropping Jasons name he agreed to refund me IF I drove to Norfolk to be there at 9:00am for a refund, his condition was that his Rolex expert would be there to verify it was the watch he sold. Right the way through he made out as if it was completely genuine and that I was some dealer trying to scam him or rip him off, playing the 'innocent old man' card.

I took the 7 hours round trip to meet him, he was very amicable, protesting he knew nothing about it and was selling it in good faith and that he was going to get a Rolex expert to verify the watch etc etc. He spent over an hour showing me the 'research' he had done on the internet alongside proudly showing me his collection of very valuable vintage cars, including the first ever mini cooper S he'd found, clearly a wealthy man.

He absolutely suckered me in and I genuinely felt for him, I genuinely felt he knew nothing about what he had sold me and having received my refund drove home. I went home and told my wife about the 'poor old guy', I even followed up with later text explaining I was sorry it had panned out as it did.

All ended well until my Jason contacted me tonight, having pieced the puzzle together he informed me that he had acted as an expert witness in a court case a few years back where a buyer in Norfolk had unwittingly bought a Tudor Monte Carlo which transpired to be fake and the buyer had to take the seller to court....... who was the seller......Bob Long of Bungay, Norfolk............. the watch: the Tudor Monte Carlo.

I really had been duped by this scam merchant, firstly that he convinced me he was an unsuspecting old man who knew nothing about his fake watch and secondly making me jump through hoop after hoop to get my money back! All I would say is buyer beware.....

Here is the relisted watch and a little about the unscrupulous seller..............................

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-...h=item4d83a8af91:g:0uAAAOSw8sBbwaSx:rk:1:pf:0

He has since removed the listing.

Name: Robert Victor Long (aka) Bob Long
Watch: Rolex Tudor Monte Carlo, serial 860976 reference 7032/0
ebay: littlegems121
Lives: Bungay Norfolk

Bob takes clear pride in his public image, being know as the discovery of the oldest mini copper in existence alongside having numerous other classic cars, he clearly doesn't need the money so all I can think is that he proactively and knowingly rips off unsuspecting punters then adopts either an aggressive stance accusing buyers or the 'innocent old man' who had no idea what he was seller.

Here is a little more about 'Bob'

https://www.metro.news/earliest-known-mini-cooper-discovered-in-suffolk-barn/1212767/

Its not the first time he's sold fake tudors, he was highlighted in 2008 on the rolex form for selling a fake Tudor sub.

Ive been in communication with the seller and called him about about this scam, all he has done is insult me further and continue to accuse me, never once admitting he has been caught out, bare face lied to me throughout this process and knowingly sold fake goods. I will hold back from publicly putting up the messages he has sent me but needless to say it takes a lot for me to out someone like this.

I wanted the community to be aware of this scam artist, he will come over as a genuine person but he clearly isn't, he's a deceitful individual who clearly has no morals and no conscience over trying to sell this clearly fake watch.

Cheers Tom

Thank you for bringing this to everyone's attention - well documented and communicated. He needs bringing to justice - I wonder how many people he has scammed so far. Probably quite a few by the sounds of things.

Important warning:
I strongly recommend to suspend him from your “friendlist” and your groups.

Guillhermo Herman / Santiago de chile
+56998843729,
guillhermohermanjerez@hotmail.com,
guillhermoherman@yahoo.es
https://www.facebook.com/guillermocherman/

In May of the year 2020 a written purchase contract was concluded. After the payment had been made Guiolhermo Herman promised to ship the watch within two weeks. But the seller did not ship and argued that this would be due to the Covid 19 situation. Messages were either not answered at all or only very hesitantly. Six months later the seller announced that he cancels the transaction and the payment made would be returned. This transfer back never took place. Communication with Guilhermo Herman took hours after hours and turned out to be a nightmare.

Help from friends in Santiago di Chile as well as a paid lawyer to convince Guillhermo Herman after more than eight months to hand over the watch in person in Santiago. This is not a single case. Another friend confirmed that he had experienced a similar story with Guillhermo Herman before. Also he was only able to get to his property after month and only thanks to the help of a paid lawyer.
He moved recently - his address is not correct any longer!

Scammer alert member @fastfras

Hi guys,

Have to write about my bad experience with this account @fastfras / fastfras2@gmail.com

I have "bought" and payed this watch by bank wire with confidence for the forum's safe policies about the sale and for the fees he sent me fron OF and watchuseek, but probably someone hacked is gmail and OF account.

https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-speedmaster-31130423001005-complete-set-2020.135698/

I didn't pay attention (my fault) and do a fast deal, I realize too late that is a scam.

So always be carefully and hope that no one else was cheated.

Thanks to @dsio that immediately have blocked the account and supported me.

Mattia.

Ebay user name: coleccionvintages

Also uses : timesvintages

Based in Peru, though location on ebay is stated as The States. Did not ship a watch I won at auction, admitted that it hadn't been ship, but would not initiate the refund through PayPal. Claimed incompetence.

Knew the timeframe I needed to wait to finally claim through eBay, and that is ultimately what I had to do, wait. Very frustrating.

Don't understand his/her ploy, the auctions are always undervalued to suck you in.

Chrono24 name: Javier Grau Farrerons
Based in Spain

Advertised a piece as being in good working order. Watch was in terrible shape, and was estimated to require repairs in excess of its purchase value. Adamantly refused a return or even partial refund.

I am not sure I understand what has gone on here. Did you elect to pay F & F (which has no buyer protection) or did PP simply redirect your G & S payment into a F & F payment?

It was my mistake and I was stupid not to recheck.... I was doing all in hurry beacuse it was late eavning and I wished to close deal before going to bed.

according to paypal answer to me:
"some PayPal users may have the option to receive only personal payments and this will depend on the country of registration and the local regulations. If you're trying to buy something from this user, you can just send personal payment."

So, you dont have option g&s or FF, there is automatic just FF option and only FF. And as I always makde G&S, I didnt recheck and I just sent money....and lost 250e

Keep in mind, recheck

I have a few watches for sale on the forum right now and I’ve been contacted by two different users saying they will buy my watch.
What is suspicious is this users have only just joined the forum and they have zero posts.

This has to be a scam of some sort.

Thanks.

I don't see why it has to be a scam. I think there are a fair number who lurk without an account. Perhaps he is one, who was motivated enough by your listing to create an account. Of course, take normal precautions, and I would understand a preference for wanting to sell to a member with more history.

Hello,
So this is awkward..
I just search “caravelle sea hunter for sale” once a week on google image, sort by the most recent and yours popped up (try it)
I created an account as soon as I saw it only to contact you…
This might sounds weird I realize but I’ll be happy to discuss further, I have many references (mostly eBay) let me know 😀

How? I am failing to see anything suspicious.

I have sold a few watches and parts to people that just joined the forum so they could message me. As this is a global platform, you will get people that are searching the web for watches/parts and find items listed for sale here.

I just sold a watch to someone who just made an account to message me about it. It went very smoothly. The way I see it, as the seller you have the power, by refusing to dispatch any item until payment is duly received.

On the contrary, I treat any brand new account responding to a ‘want to buy’ by offering something for sale as a scam.

I was hasty in my suspicions and have since sold two watches to users with very low post counts.

I do agree that as the seller you have most of the chips stacked in your favour but you still here of scams where the buyer states the watch has never been received or they received an empty box etc. I just don’t want any hassle when selling.

Thanks.

Artur Castro / Artur da Silva Castro from Portugal

@artzywatches / Artzy Watches on Instagram

https://www.instagram.com/artzywatches/

Scammed anyone he could on Reddit before being outed even by people who have met with him personally, his own friends, still active on Instagram though. Reddit mods didn't act when I first notified them of this issue, after he scammed me and my report, 2 people sent watches to him in trades, luckily they saw my public negative feedback and managed to reverse their packages

It was verified that he was the actual scammer, since everything from phone numbers to address/name he used on his earlier transactions were the same before/after becoming a scammer

Happened in a very bad time in my life, I lost 320 euros while buying a gold coated 1040 bracelet, on the bright side it was a learning experience

Damn. Sorry to hear of your experience with this scammer, K. Good that some managed to reverse their packages though.
