It is a [...] ghost bezel. Tough sell[] today.

William can you elaborate, please? Thank you 😀 Paul

I seem to remember that we had a ‘yet to be scheduled’ intended afternoon, playing with your Leicas in the Yorkshire Dales ?

Especially appropriate, as I have just had my 1959 M3, given the full ‘spa treatment’

I haven’t forgotten, mine is still here waiting too.
We will have to get our heads together before the summers end 👍

I took this one before packing it up today.
You might not like the lume job or the bezel but it is still better than some of the much more expensive 003s I have seen around.

@michael e Are you selling all your speedmasters?

No.
Two business ones will be sold and one personal watch I have had for many years will be sold at Sotherbys,
My Ultraman and brown 2998 will stay with me for the time being.
Cheers, Michael

The 2998-4 that recently ended also fetched a lower than expected price.

Bezel shot, tired dial, engraved, service hands and furniture. Don‘t think that one went cheaply. Seller was trying to sell the story but that was the only redeeming factor for me.

So the first watch in this thread is now getting returned to me, and who would blame a buyer after reading some of these posts.

The second watch I have just sold (the 2998) is now up for the same treatment by the looks of it.

Just to be clear, if that buyer wants to change his mind I would happily cancel that sale too.
I think these watches sold cheaply and will happily have them back.

Cheers, Michael

Would you have not mentioned the history or the owner of the watch then?

I'd be delighted to be getting the 105.003 back if my auction had ended at that price!

As we can see from this thread, there is clearly some difference in opinions in the relative attractiveness of watches. This is perfectly fine and makes watch collecting fun and interesting. I would hope that no one here meant any disrespect to you, just merely stating an opinion on the watch. I certainly didn’t mean any disrespect when I said the relume on the 105.003 was not my cup of tea. If someone agrees to a deal because they like the watch and what they paid, they shouldn’t let the opinions of people here sway them. There will always be differences of opinion and isn’t that the point of a forum? Both watches at worst seem to be fairly priced (with my opinion the 2998 was downright cheap). Sounds like you might have some buyers here without the obnoxious drain of eBay fees.

Yes, would have mentioned it, that wasn‘t a criticism. I think you sold the watch on the story as it isn’t particularly attractive on its own in my opinion. Compare to Cernan‘s Speedy which is totally shot but would bring massive money nonetheless, provenance beats condition on such a watch. The buyer may have some link to it I don‘t know and therefore be really happy to have this one.

It feels to me like people are picking on this seller unnecessarily. I think he gave honest descriptions of the watches, and some people may find them appealing on their merits. If you don't like them, don't bid. No need to bash them.

Regarding the market trends, I am now realizing this is a perennial topic on OF, and there is never agreement. It's a hot potato for a public forum, since it's hard to be totally objective when we are deep into these watches.

I hesitate to criticise anyone…but there are some profoundly ill informed, comments in this thread

Price seems low from what I'm used to from the past couple years, but less so for the past few months. It's a little soft right now. For an ed white with a relumed dial and no bracelet, the price doesn't shock me.

For reference, I picked up this one around a month ago for 10k US, also at auction on ebay.

Also no bracelet (the one that's on there now is aftermarket that I bought afterwards). Mine has incorrect pushers and crown (in the process of being fixed), but also isn't relumed. I also replaced the DON it came with with a marginally better one. If this is a ~10k ed white right now, one with a relumed dial and a more aged bezel selling for a 1k discount seems pretty reasonable.
