We are a little more understanding and forgiving than TRF

That’s fair enough

If you want a fantastic value do all chronograph then take a look at the Tudor black bay chronograph

Incredible value for money. In house modified breitling movement. Which actually as far as breitling movements go is unusually v.good!

You get a date function and depth rating.

If it isn’t too chunky for you it’s a big winner

Even like it very much In the new YG and steel: all steel denim is my fav

Ps forgot to mention!! It’s automatic!!! ::psy::👍

Heresy.

Scheduling my stake burning for next week as I contemplate selling my Speedy.

I've had it for three months...never had one before. Here are my gripes:

1. The manual winding. Cannot bond with it. I know I should learn to enjoy the ritual of winding it each morning - blah, blah, blah - it's a PITA.

2. The face is too busy for me and there is no date. When I look down I have to search a bit for the time - a lot of hands. Too many notes, Mozart.

3. Did I mention the hand winding is a non-starter for me? I had no idea how much I would dislike it.

I get all the history behind the watch. I like that aspect of it but, I have many time pieces to choose from every day and Speedy ain't cutting it for me.

BTW, I am 60 years old. Work in Real Estate and tend to dress upscale casual for work and very casual otherwise.

Flame suit on - let 'er rip!

Ben

So, as 1. and 3. are the same, there are basically only two points left:

Winding: Yes you have to get used to. But if you do so - did you ever look at the most beautiful and modern watch case out there available?? It is sportive but in the same instance elegant! There is no watch case out there, that is more interesting and at the same time sturdy and sophisticated!

The face: if astronauts did not find it too busy, why should you? And if you do, there is no (none!) chronograph out there, that is less busy. This was one of the reasons why NASA did choose this watch!

If I had the chance to choose an automatic moonwatch? Yes I would want that. But would I accept a thicker case then as well? Hell, no! Look how thin it seems from the side (which in fact it isn‘t)!

Mechanical watches are a dear hobby to me - since over 25 years now. It took me over 15 years to fall in love with the moonwatch, before I might have argued as you do now... So certain things need time...

Think about it! 😉

It is what it is.
The only thing I can say is that at your age, you ought to have known better.
I can only assume that you may have picked it up on an impulse and didn't think it through fully.

Personally, it took me decades to finally come to pick up my Speedy Pro Hesalite and with this being a significant year, it was a big factor.
It's taken me years to fully understand what makes it such a great watch for a Chrono(I've never ever really been a fan of Chronos).
And it will be the only one I ever have.
Since owning it and living with it I have come to appreciate it on a deeper level.
It's simply one of the purest examples of form as a product of function.😀
Assuming you paid full retail, i hope you don't take too much of a bath on it if you decide to move it on in the near future.

How long have you had the watch?
Does it come on the bracelet?
Did you pick it up at a good price?

Have you worn a submariner? A date submariner may be exactly what you are looking for. You really can't go wrong.

Maybe even a DJ with smooth bezel on Oyster as well.
Of course, that's if one is looking for a Rolex to replace it.

Yup, same for me. That said, the GSOTM is a grail for me, but of course it's an automatic, has a date, and only two subdial registers. 😎

I’m with you on not getting any joy out of the manual winding. I got my 4th Speedy this week, and I wear them only occasionally so it’s not a major issue. I actually don’t use watch winders for my autos and so I always have to set each watch when I switch to it. The difference between manuals and autos is that I tend to simply keep an auto on for many continuous days whereas the manuals get switched out sooner.

As for the dial, I don’t find it too busy. I like the look of a Chrono dial (even though I don’t use the Chrono function). What I like least about Speedies is that any modern white markers and hands are less than appealing compared to the beautiful yellow/orange patina if vintage versions. I’m not a purist, and so modern fauxtina works fine for me. I like my ST2 and both LE mods have silver applied hour markers.

I my latest addition is a custom fauxtina relume by James Hyman on a modern Speedy dial. It is maybe a bit sacrilegious for many, but works for me...

Here it is next to a window, no filters or adjustments.

I wind whatever watch I’m going to wear for the day in the morning, auto or manual, it’s a habit thing. I have one Chrono, a FOIS and I also wear it for “business casual” days.

If you don’t like the Speedy, move on. Life is too short, especially for those of us with less runway than others

My wife does this also. She rarely wears her reading glasses, so I don't think she could read the time on her watch anyway.

@Bizcut1...you stated that you have had your Speedy for 3 months.

In my humble opinion, I would recommend holding on to your Speedy and then reevaluate at 12 months.

What, no recommendation on getting feedback from multiple Hooters waitresses first? Or trying it on double NASA NATO to wear as a belt? Or to try it at the skate park with VANS? Or to take it in an MD-88 cockpit? Or take it cruising with a beloved Police Interceptor? Or.... 😕

Yes - feeling shame. Yes, impulse. But purchased it grey so in for $4600 on the Sapphire Sandwich model with all the trimmings.
Don't really need a Chrono - do you? Besides, worried about its water tightness - those pushers feel not so hardy.
3 months
Bracelet and three leather straps / w deployants and then of course the NASA velcro and the Omega NATO that came with it.
Yes - see above. With 5 year warrantee from the dealer (no Omega warranty with grey market purchase).

No.

All those things that you mentioned require “years of academy training”...we don’t want to be “overloading” regarding @Bizcut1. 😁

Thanks for getting back👍

In answer to your question.
No I don't need a Chrono although I have used it in a fun way on a different type of watch way "back in the day" when smaller things amused my developing mind😉

Having said that, I offen use it on the Speedy to time my cooking of certain things even though I find the bezel on my fully graduated divers to be more usefull overall in terms of manner of operation.

A while back though my Wife and I were having dinner with a group of friends at a pub.
The fellow I was sitting next to wanted to vent his spleen about something that was bugging him about his car and he started out by saying he was going to cap it at 2 minutes.
I promptly started the Chrono in front of him and said the clock is ticking.
He immediately stopped mid sentence about the car and was raving about my Moonwatch as he knew I had recently picked one up on a cruise at a good price but he hadn't seen it yet. (I think he's right into Chronos as I haven't ever seen him without one of some kind).
He then proceeded to bitch about the fact he let one go many years prior and never re-acquired one again despite loving it so much.
I think he realized in the fullness of time, that it was harder to replace than he ever imagined and it may have been a late 60's reference with the 321 movement?:whipped:

Mine was looking good with it's Silver Snoopy strap.
