I want to love my Speedmaster, but I don't even like it...

Heresy.

Scheduling my stake burning for next week as I contemplate selling my Speedy.

I've had it for three months...never had one before. Here are my gripes:

1. The manual winding. Cannot bond with it. I know I should learn to enjoy the ritual of winding it each morning - blah, blah, blah - it's a PITA.

2. The face is too busy for me and there is no date. When I look down I have to search a bit for the time - a lot of hands. Too many notes, Mozart.

3. Did I mention the hand winding is a non-starter for me? I had no idea how much I would dislike it.

I get all the history behind the watch. I like that aspect of it but, I have many time pieces to choose from every day and Speedy ain't cutting it for me.

BTW, I am 60 years old. Work in Real Estate and tend to dress upscale casual for work and very casual otherwise.

Flame suit on - let 'er rip!

Ben

We don't all have to like the same things...I'd sell it and move on.

We’re all different!

I wear an automatic most days, but wind my manual every day anyway - a few seconds just feeling and listening with focus that I really enjoy each morning.

Good luck with the sale! 👍

My watch theory has developed into this, if you don’t have to wind a watch, all you need is your damn phone for time. Mechanical for me, wouldn’t wear a Apple Watch if it was free

I love my automatics - they are mechanicals.

De gustibus non est disputandum, after all. I didn't take a liking to the classic Moonwatch for quite a while, but now it's the next one on my list.

I love mine but 90 percent of the time the speedmaster and the railmaster are in the drawer and my quartz seamaster is in the wrist. It's just easier.... in fact, the day after I dropped my seamaster off for clasp repair I decided to wear my speedy to work and I forgot to wind in up (but it still had some life left from the night before) almost was late to a job because it stopped ticking Haha. I knew the time felt off but it was correct when i put it on lol. Live n learn.

Yep, sell it move on life is too short.
Seamasters have a good history too. Bond, Royal Navy etc. Try that, they are very legible and have date.

If you don't like it, sell it and move on. No issues. There is no rule that says you must love the Speedmaster.

Happens, no rule here saying you have to.

Buy what you like and enjoy.

I still probably forget to wind once a month due to weekends or start work early due to a job before sparrows are farting and forget to wind.

PS I don’t like HE valves with a passion, never owned a modern Seamaster due to it. Those hands with the bits missing in the middle annoy me even more. And don’t even get me started on Seamaster chronos

Triple wrong for me below

But I love this one I own

Nothing wrong with your POV or taste. Our tastes evolve over time, while you may not like the watch today, nothing suggests it won’t change in a few years. It has happened to many of us here as our tastes and collection matures. So, don’t write it off that easily....yet.

Sounds like its time to flip it. The funny thing is that one day you may end up wanting it back! Such is life.

Fact is:
if you DON’T love your SpeedMaster, you don’t love your country. If you don’t like a manual movement, you certainly don’t love God!

Can I get an Amen!

Initially I didn’t like a chronograph watch at all. I also never thought of owning a Speedmaster Professional to say the least.

Then something happened when I saw a Tintin Speedmaster watch with my AD. It was really very different Moonwatch with black white and red combination on the dial. It was a nonstarter then and was available on 25% discount. I bought it.

Then I joined Omegaforums.net.

Now I have two more Speedies; an Ultraman and a vanilla Moonwatch. Life without them will not be as enjoyable as it is with them.
