36mm all the way IMO. The proportions are just right.
Although..if your struggling to chose, maybe the Explorer isn’t for you.

There’s no right or wrong decision!

When my 36mm arrived, I put it on my 6.75" wrist and instantly knew that it would was going to be a keeper. There was no question or debate. Something about this watch just works really well. It wears bigger than a 36mm. And, the stainless seems very bright. Not sure if this is due to the 916 vs. 316.

Looks a very good price to me. Certainly have seen them more expensive than this (not sure if this one has box and papers). It's a tad more than a new Oyster Perpetual 36mm, which is to be expected seeing as it's a popular watch and they don't make it any more.

Excellent seller too, I bought mine from them.

Just a little update 😀 the search is over, but the journey still continues 😁 😒
Finally i decided to go for a 36mm version, as the 39mm didnt feel right.

I found one that was for sale by a local auction house.
It looked nice, although the crystal had a few small nicks at 6 o'clock, and the bracelet was too short.

So we agreed that one bracelet link goes on the house, and if necessary i will pay the 2nd one out of my pocket. The kind sales lady even wrote a note that the nicks on the crystal should be buffed out by watchmaker free of charge. I thought, fine!
The watch had to be sent off to the headquarters and then came the 3 weeks lockdown. So after >4 weeks of waiting finally got the call today.
Well the watchmaker was generous and replaced the crystal (free of charge, yay!). But the new crystal has no laser engraved coronet.. :whipped:
Which is a really weird situation, because they did something, i didnt ask for, and they didnt charge for it, but i am pretty upset i must say..

Now i am not a Rolex specialist, and this is my first one, but i read that all the Rolex crystals from ~2002 onwards have the coronet, dont they?

I told the sales person, that i am not sure if the crystal is genuine Rolex crystal and sent her a photo which i made when i purchased the watch, the coronet was visible there and she told me she will talk to the watchmaker.. So i wonder how this story goes on..

You might need to look harder - the crown be incredibly difficult to spot unless you look at just the right angle. I just looked at mine and it took me ages to find it. Try using a torch at an angle.

i used torch, led, uv lamp, even a loupe. i looked the entire edge 360°. not there.
the old one i could spot easily. maybe i got blind in the past 4 week 😁

I couldn't find mine with an illuminated loupe just now. It took a very particular angle with a lamp to see it and it was smaller than I was looking for. My eyesight is pretty good, despite my advancing years, but my daughter spotted it more easily than I did!

Yes, I guess so. Is at 6 o'clock.
The old one i could see without problem, even with a naked eye. Strange. Ok I will keep on looking, but i am pretty sure its not there.

Its finally back with me after spending few months and two lockdowns at the stores watchmaker.
Got a proper crystal installed this time, and looked at with a proper Rolex authorised pkace. No more dust on the dial, or fingerprints, so looking good. 👍
Now that i wore it for almost two weeks straight, its actually crazy that i even considered the 39mm.
36mm feels really well balanced and extremely comfortable, i almost forget that i wear anything. The more i look at it the more it looks right 😀
The dial is like a black hole, ive never seen such intence black elsewhere.

You should have gotten the 39mm...the 36mm looks too small on your wrist.

I'm kidding, I'm kidding!! 😉 It looks great. Congrats on a great watch!!

I just bought by first Rolex in December and went with the 14270 model (36mm). Understated, very light and comfortable on wrist. Both are great watches. Can't go wrong with either.

I dont know whether to get the new Rolex Explorer 41mm as my first luxury watch??
So far I have been looking at Omega Speedmasters, but I have come to terms with myself, that I am not a fan of the bracelet/strap on the current 1861 and 3861 watches.
